P&S Cameras suck

Wow. Yes they do. I don't get why people buy these things... poor flash range

They only suck for professional photographers, not for people who just want to shoot some photographs of their mundane vacation. They don't care about optical zoom or how many megapixels or manual features the cameras have.

I gave my G3 to my Mom after getting a 300D.

It's painful trying to use it now when she asks me to take pictures with it. Shutter....is.....so............slow....

no manual features sniff...

My point and shoot has a lot of manual features. Canon A80

Well some people dont want to (or can't) pay $500+ for just a body and another $500 for lenses (and other stuff)...I would love a 300D or the N50/70 if I could afford it. The svelte size is another issue....who wants to take such a big camera to a club or social event? I enjoy my a95 and wish it was more flexible once in awhile, but enjoy the point and shoot ability!

Because dragging around a 1000 dollar camera with 2000 worth of lens attachments is a pain in the ass for everyday use? Oh that and not sounding like a douchebag by making a post like this

A good photographer can get incredible shots from a Kodak disposable camera. There's not a camera in the world that can save a crappy photographer, and there's not a camera in the world that can stop a great photographer.

As the saying goes, it is the un-skilled workman who blames his tools.

ZV <- typically shoots Fuji Pro 160 with Zeiss glass but has gotten some of his best shots with an ancient (and dirt cheap) Chinon and Fuji 400.

I was thinking about getting a DSLR, but i realize it would just sit at home most of the time, while my Optio, which fits nicely in my pocket would still be my main camera.

They all have their uses.

When I want to take serious pictures, I'll take my 20D.

If I don't want to lug around a very conspicuous camera and just want to take decent, undemanding shots, I'll take my S60.

For their purposes they work just fine. I know many people who own a nice DSLR but still has a compact P&S for the everyday picture taking.
