at a recent sci-fi book club meeting the host said we are going to focus on some utopic media sooner than later. In the years since Star-Trek sci-fi has been primarily focused on dystopian or kind of darker sci-fi and the question - can humanity even achieve a higher level of society if they can't even dream it up and write about it? Star-Trek was mentioned of course, and kind of an interesting discussion to have, and looking forward to the books.

I like how that phrase is starting to turn up everywhere. I see it on banners and signs on private property, city street chalk, hell I saw it on a dog's winter coat the other day. Just yesterday while playing ARC Raiders with my son a bunch of players helping us in the game had it in their names. Now it's at the Olympics. lol

In other, related news... Wilson nails it. Behind the proud ignorance and apathy to real issues and crimes, you can tell the old religious white guys of Team Treason understand this. Feels like a collapse is in the mail, and just look at the number of congress critters calling it quits, running for the hills like Stefanik.

Counter-argument: what we call dystopian sci-fi is inherently utopian, as it usually provides an alternative to the status quo, an opportunity to rise above our current quagmire (perceived or otherwise). True dystopian isn't as common, and requires either a continuation of the status quo, things legitimately getting worse for everyone, or opportunities being removed from the table.

Examples: I am mother - not dystopian, aliens - definitely dystopian. V for vendetta, not dystopian, Life - dystopian.

we all process grief differently

I get the impression she was a kid exposed to the evangelical mega church performance nuttery. Those people really get off on wire harness hoisted flight mimicry. That and she just really wants fame and money.

i've only found the one newspaper from Rwanda reporting it so it could be nothing, he was definitely in the area with men and drones (and israeli sf), they are there to help the government with tax collection(amazing)

That kind of thing happens every now and then, but really, if true they've got nothing to worry about. He's got plenty of friends that will come and get him. One phone call from the States to the effect of 'let them go, or you get the Osama bin Laden treatment before dinner' and they are out of there. Everyone's scared shitless after Maduro got snatched, after we went through his protection like a door.

no sir. Very good?

I started reading Project Hail Mary last night and goddamn that shit is good. I couldn't put it down. I saw the Martian movie and it was ok, the book has gotta be better, but didn't have the urge to read it either.

I heard Artemis by him was shite so I skipped that. But project hail mary is on another level, I'll probably finish it in a few days. The reviews and sales numbers match up.
