And apparently not even that, by that list. It's something I had heard/read a number of years back, so not too surprised I was wrong but I should have googled it first before spouting old "knowledge".

Holy shit.. I had no idea they made bikes that expensive. I have wanted to get into biking but all I search are cruisers on the walmart shop and they're like $170-300 range.

I'm sorry about your bike.. actually have had someone steal my neighbors bike a few years back too.
The price/value of bikes has really jumped in the past 15-20 years, especially with the mainstreaming of e-bikes. Top of the line hardtail mountain bikes 20 years ago were around $3-4K. Now a similar bike is $6-7K, and an e-bike version is $9-10K. It's crazy.

I had at least 4 or 5 bicycles stolen between the ages of 10 and 30. My bikes tended to be valuable though, as they were usually custom builds that I did myself. Most of them were covered by insurance, but that didn't comfort me much when it'd happen.

One last note: if you're shopping around for a new bike...I recommend the lowest priced bike shop bike over anything that Walmart or a department store will carry. Even brands that are sold in both do not use the same lines in both bike shops and dept stores. The bike shop bikes are better quality and more reliable/dependable/durable.

Just my 2 cents as a bike shop mechanic for 20 years.

and always tip your bike mechanic!

I do for mostly everything. They are an underpaid group of people.

my current main ride would cost me between 4-5K to replace if I had to buy all the stuff to put it together. It's taken 4.5 years to get it to this point. for almost 3 years I kept upgrading the parts on a Jamis Coda steel frame, part by part as I could buy them, then when I had the 800 bucks I bought a Soma Double Cross Disc frame and put all those parts on it. Then in the 1.5 years since I've upgraded some stuff on the bike, mostly stuff that was not upgraded before.

I keep it all safe with pitlock bolts and skewers, hexlox on some smaller parts like my rackmounts and saddle bolts. I also have the Hiplok D1000, an actually highly angle grinder resistant U Lock, the world's first, and pissed on the best kryptonite stuff. That alone was $300, though I used a 20% coupon on that from REI. My bike is about as safe as you can get locking it up in a high theft area. I still would not do it overnight, not because I think it would get stolen, but I don't want people to have tons of time to really go at it and fuck other things up. but I can just lock up anywhere in NYC now and go in and have a couple drinks and eat for a couple hours and really not worry.

of course the bike is an additional insure on my property insurance.

They appreciate it! I rarely got them, but occasionally someone would bring me a 6 pack after they picked up their bike, heh. It was nice to get the extra thanks, because as you said...it doesn't pay that well. Even as a service manager, I never made much more than ~$20/hr. I stuck with it because I enjoyed the work, but you don't work in bike shops to get rich, lol.

Exactly. Most of my bikes, I wouldn't take them anywhere that I couldn't take it inside with me if it was going to be more than an hour or two out of my sight. People will fuck your shit up when they can't steal it, just to spite you. Having your $1K wheelset stomped on is no bueno.

Saw evidence of that more than a few times.

Ah yes, fond memories of arriving at work 3 miles across base from my dorms, dripping from sweat from 100+ heat, riding a 50lb BX special, after snapping one of the pedals in half and having my hearing shot from jets taking off a quarter mile off from my biking path. Cheap bikes are shit.

Read what you linked-DONNY Jr. failed to mention Trump as one of the people in Epstein sex tapes while the the article Donny Jr. linked did specifically include Trump. So the real takeaway is the press reported the facts while Donny Jr didn't (big surprise).

Got it, thanks for the correction.

First on _American_ TV.

(And the Trek one was essentially non-consensual, as it involved alien mind-control, which raises a whole other set of problems)

There undeniably was a vaguely 'progressive' and idealistic agenda behind original Star Trek, but it was pretty timid about it at the same time.
I don’t think you fully understand the America of the 60’s nor understand Star Trek if you are calling it “vaguely progressive “.

America and American TV was predominately centered on being white and male.

Then here’s Star Trek. The command crew has a black woman officer (Uhura), former enemy of the US (Sulu - Japanese), and current enemy (Checkov - Russian) all working together.

That was extremely progressive for the time. The circumstances around Uhura’s and Kirk’s kiss in Plato Children was basically to get around studio interference. (This kind of interference was still going on into the 00’s with resistance to allowing Willow and Tara to kiss romantically on Buffy)

I’ll also add this story Nichelle Nichols (Uhura) told about what Martin Luther King said to her about the show to reiterate how progressive it actually was. (Actually heard this story from her when I met her in person)

Ms. NICHOLS: I went in to tell Gene Roddenberry that I was leaving after the first season, and he was very upset about it. And he said, take the weekend and think about what I am trying to achieve here in this show. You're an integral part and very important to it. And so I said, yes, I would. And that - on Saturday night, I went to an NAACP fundraiser, I believe it was, in Beverly Hills. And one of the promoters came over to me and said, Ms. Nichols, there's someone who would like to meet you. He says he is your greatest fan.

And I'm thinking a Trekker, you know. And I turn, and before I could get up, I looked across the way and there was the face of Dr. Martin Luther King smiling at me and walking toward me. And he started laughing. By the time he reached me, he said, yes, Ms. Nichols, I am your greatest fan. I am that Trekkie.

(Soundbite of laughter)

Ms. NICHOLS: And I was speechless. He complimented me on the manner in which I'd created the character. I thanked him, and I think I said something like, Dr. King, I wish I could be out there marching with you. He said, no, no, no. No, you don't understand. We don't need you on the - to march. You are marching. You are reflecting what we are fighting for. So, I said to him, thank you so much. And I'm going to miss my co-stars.

And his face got very, very serious. And he said, what are you talking about? And I said, well, I told Gene just yesterday that I'm going to leave the show after the first year because I've been offered - and he stopped me and said: You cannot do that. And I was stunned. He said, don't you understand what this man has achieved? For the first time, we are being seen the world over as we should be seen. He says, do you understand that this is the only show that my wife Coretta and I will allow our little children to stay up and watch. I was speechless.”

Each of the next several series continued to be progressive.

From the Reddit…

It’s Uncle Sam’s lanes Troy, ny
Yeah...

The first info/posts I found about it (on Twitter) had people posting all of the business AND the individual's personal info...I didn't think that'd fly here so I found one without all of that.

The guy and the business were already getting roasted on a spit and comment-bombed last night, including on the local Police page, the town hall's page, local community development org, etc.
