Yes, plenty of dumb people live everywhere. No one disputes this. But scatter them out in cornfields where their dumbness is never diluted by the overwhelming number of literate people, the dumbness suddenly has influence and real power. I'm sure there are plenty of rednecks all around states like NY and IL (and there certainly are), but we as a country don't have to worry about their bronze aged bullshit because they are drowned out by smarter, better people.

Now, what to do about Texas...

Exactly. I wasn't disputing that either. In fact New York has more political idiots than Oklahoma, numbers wise. But ratio wise, you will have better luck being near a large city most other states than Oklahoma if you want more politically advanced and critical thinking capable people. Part of it is the religion thing. I mean how far can you evolve with critical thinking when you belong to a wackadoo church. The bible belt is backwards because of this. This is not disputable.
