The NRA is a non profit 501C-3 with tax exempt status granted by the IRS. The tax exempt status is predicated on the NRA promising never to endorse a candidate or lobby a public official. Why is no one prosecuting them for tax fraud?!

NRA gets around this by having two sides. The education and safety side that gives donors the tax receipts, then there’s the lobbying side. They don’t actually endorse candidates but they can run ads pushing their issue, even questioning certain candidates stances on those issues. As long as they don’t say vote for XYZ.

Isn’t democracy grand?

Well, each congressman gets the NRA's "approval list" and ranking number, which is the same thing. "We give this guy a 5! obviously...vote for him because his evil dem commie opponent gets a 1"

Oh I agree it seems like it should be but they rank everyone. They don’t say vote for this guy though. Just another way to get around the rules while keeping that tax free status.
