While it does have some important things to bring up, Germany really is not patriotic. I had a friend who wanted to work for the US State Department. To do this he took a track of living in Germany for 4 years in their government. While he was there, he would compare their culture to US Culture. More insight is that he was born in Argentina but became an american citizen before the age of 5. He considers himself an American through and through though.
His observation was that Germany was afraid to be patriotic. The only time he saw any real patriotism was during the world cup. He said generally they feel that the world does not like when they are patriotic and don't want to invoke memories of what Germany did in the past. But, he fully agreed that Germany does not like to be patriotic.
2 World Wars will have that effect...they've become a bit more patriotic which each major football tournament lately so maybe the new generation no longer feels that weight on their shoulders?
I'm sure it helps. There is a famous video where Merkel takes a flag from someone that was handed it because its still not a good idea.

However, recently she has started using the flag again as its becoming more popular.

The west in general is becoming more nationalistic so we will see how it all plays out.
My relatives from the Netherlands have asked me a couple of times we so many people fly flags at home here in Canada, they said it's not something often done there.
Apparently true. From his Wiki bio-
1972-2016 is 44 years, 8800 working days at 200 days/ year... Even if he only worked 100 days per year that would be 8800 trips to and fro...
True...I saw him and his detail on the Acela a few times when I had to go up to NJ for work.
I actually DO think he could've been President if his son hadn't died. A lot of the folks who voted for Obama and then voted for Trump in rust belt states would've easily voted for Biden over Trump. Hillary may not have stood a chance in the primary, and Bernie Bros wouldn't have existed. At least that's what I'd like to believe. He should have been President.
But somewhere along the line poor people thought that having uber rich kents representing them would be great because they put the poor against the immigrants and if you can blame an outside force for your problems, it's always successful.
Göbbels tactics do work, they work very well and that is the one and only reason why DT was elected. Because as a majority, Americans are basically no better than the Nazis.
