It Is definitely soccer. Blame students at Oxford in the 19th century. They shortened association football to assoccer and then soccer.

That's way above my American 6th grade reading level comprehension.

Use Foot on ball.. FOOTball!

But yeah we Americans are stupid enough to park in driveways but drive on parkways!

What I find amusing is for a while one of the bodies running the sport in the US was called "The soccer association". Which, as "soccer" is a corruption of "association" in "association football", equates to "The association association"

Well then you'll be happy to know that a prevailing theory is that these types of games are called football because they're played on foot as opposed to horseback.

Sounds like they should have called it the Football Association for Association Football.

There are many trophies in football but only one continental treble. (You could compare it to the racing triple crown)

A continental treble involves winning the club's
1. top-level domestic league competition,
2. main domestic cup competition, and
3. main continental trophy
.

Although winning three second-tier trophies is sometimes called treble, it is not as widely accepted and generally mocked as there's only one continental treble.

Even Real Madrid who have won the Champions League 15 times (most) have 0 trebles. The feat of winning the continental treble has only been done by the following 10 teams:

Celtic 1966-67 (Scotland)

Ajax 1971-72 (Netherlands)

PSV Eindhoven 1987-88 (Netherlands)

Manchester United 1998-99 (fucking rags)

Barcelona 2008-09 (Spain)

Inter 2009-10 (Italy)

Bayern Munich 2012-13 (Germany)

Barcelona 2014-15 (Spain)

Bayern Munich 2019-20 (Germany)

Manchester City 2022-23 (England)

Saw these beauties on a cold day in Brooklyn 2 years ago on the trophy tour.

And there's always something you can talk to your rivals about even if they win a game every now and then..
