It's going to take a whole lot of convincing to persuade me that only 3% are atheists. Frankly the 33% estimate seems a lot closer to truth. I suspect they are counting a lot of nominals are part of some religion. For example my wife was raised Catholic, me Methodist. I doubt either of us has been to either a Catholic or Methodist church for anything but a funeral, wedding or church dinner in at least 25 years and certainly don't fund those institutions. What do we count as?
I suspect that the vast majority of our friends/associates fit roughly into the same situation as us.
A few of the questions seem to be a matter of definition. "Atheist" seems likely to be very variable depending how you define it - whether as a self-identification of someone who strongly feels 'there is no God', or a 'functional atheist' who just doesn't in practice let any belief in a Deity influence their actual life in any way. Even "Jewish" might span a range (albeit a narrower one than 'atheist') depending how strictly it's being defined.
Most of the 'estimated' answers are just completely-and-utterly absurd, though, suggesting to me that the respondents didn't give the question more than a second's thought, and maybe such 'kneejerk' answers don't actually mean a huge amount, in terms of practical concequences? I suppose they give some hints as to the distorted view of their country that many have, though.
