Being fair to the NYT (a paper I've never much liked) Elon's position of 'petulant animosity towards the left and centre-left' and 'alternating between facilitating Nazis and taking fright and backing away again' all while doing serious damage to his own financial interests, wrecking the business he just paid billions for, and giving little sign even he has much idea why he's doing any of this...doesn't seem to fit into any traditional ideological category that I'm aware of.

Closest comparative I can think of might be the conservative aristocrats and rich industrialists who backed Hitler in the delusional belief he'd be their docile puppet, only to end up losing everything they valued in the ensuring maelstrom. And even that doesn't pin down the ideology involved, just the stupidity.

It tracks, though. remember when Trump complained that he deserved an extra two years for his presidency because they were stolen from him by the Mueller investigation and the impeachment?

His idiots firmly believe this to be true. Also, pretty sure must of them were so bathed in Hillary hate to that point that they still believed she was president through those years.

That crowd will believe and say literally anything as long as it's self-serving.
