(Democrats) Who do you want to win the nomination? Other: Jello Biafra (A real leftist with far more street cred then Kunich and is not annoying to listen to speak)

(Republicans) Who do you want to win the nomination? Other: Benito Mussolini (Repubs need a real strong daddy figure for their wars who puts up with no shiz and represents the "real" 'merikan conservative imperialist values nowdays)

Of the candidates, who do you think is most likely to win a general election? Other: Count Chocula

I think the Democratic "dream team" would be Gore - Obama.

What would be better than having a Nobel Peace Prize nominee as a candidate for President?

Having a Nobel Peace Prize laureate as President and someone as intelligent, articulate and generally appealing as Obama as Vice President.

There's a big difference between being nominated for a Nobel Peace prize and winning one. George W. Bush has been nominated in the past. Literally anyone can be nominated.

And a Gore candidacy would be somewhat of a nightmare for the democrats.

Gore's been working continuously to raise American and world awareness of the immediatcy of the problem of global warming, and the "real" news about the problem, itself, has been kept his profile high and shining on the U.S. and world stage.

His candidacy for the Nobel Peace Prize is very real.
Gore wins praise from head of Nobel committee
Thu Mar 29, 2007 6:27PM EDT

By Alister Doyle, Environment Correspondent

OSLO (Reuters) - Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore won praise on Thursday from a man with the power to change lives -- the head of the Nobel Peace Prize committee -- after a speech urging more action to fight global warming.

"A very important message", Ole Danbolt Mjoes told Reuters after hearing Gore, a nominee for the prestigious award, say the planet was under threat from a build-up of greenhouse gases caused mainly by burning fossil fuels.

Mjoes, who joined in a minute-long standing ovation for Gore, said he was attending as a private citizen and not sizing up a candidate on behalf of the secretive five-member committee. He sat near the back in an audience of about 400.

Some experts tip Gore as among the favorites to win what many view as the world's top accolade. His successes this year include a double Oscar for his documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" about global warming.

"I have Gore as a clear favorite," said Stein Toennesson, head of the International Peace Research Institute in Oslo. "I think the committee will be unable to resist the temptation to add their voice" to concerns about global warming, he said.

The Democratic party could use a good PR "nightmare" like that.

OTOH, Bushwhacko's nomination was a joke from day one. The only constant image the world has of him is as a bumbling fool whose best trick is stepping on his own dick. :frown:

Gore's been losing a few pounds lately. I think he's going to jump in the ring soon.

I don't know much about the guy( except that he is filthy rich ), but I have heard that Mike Bloomberg might run for president?

He has wads of cash, so he could fund himself.

Huh? He was just in front of Congress and looked like he ate Michael Moore on the way in!

dear god I hope Gore doesn't run.

honestly, I really don't think he wants the job, and I'd guess that he's being coyly ambiguous to get attention on the issues that are important to him... I'd vote for Bloomberg in a heart beat, but I really don't see it happening, especially not if he runs as a Republican (up until relatively recently, he was a registered Democrat... his party switching was more of pragmatism than anything else. he wanted to avoid a democratic primary and secure guiliani's endorsement for the post-9/11 mayoral race).

my answer to both questions is Hillary... Obama's got a fresh face, but that won't last till the Iowa caucus and NH primary. all that he's going to be left with is his empty rhetoric and lack of experience / qualifications. the guy's got basically 0 experience as a leader. Edwards got a nice bump with the cancer thing, but that's not going to last. there's also the unknown factor. Obama's never run a national campaign (hell, he's hardly run contested local campaigns) and has never been put under the intense microscope that all presidential candidates get put under; meanwhile, Hillary's been living under that microscope for over 15 years now. I can't imagine she's got any skeletons or swift boaters left in her closet that haven't already appeared in the Starr Report or whitewater CF. there's also the fact that Bill Clinton is easily the most popular living president and probably one of the most popular presidents of all time; she can easily hitch her wagon to the legacy of the boom economy during the Clinton years.

I don't think I could bring myself to vote for any of the people on either list, so I marked 'other' for both. For the third, I marked Edwards because I think he is probably the most electable of the bunch, even if I dislike him more than most of the others.

My hope is that someone is on the ballot come November of 2008 who I can actually vote for and not feel evil for doing so. I've never been able to vote for a candidate who actually represented most of my views, at least for president.

Harvey, sadly the Nobel Prize has become a political tool in recent years as opposed to a meaningful recognition of people who have done the most to help world ?peace?

How is bringing the attention of the world, or at the US, towards Global Warming worthy of a ?peace? prize?
I am sure there are other people out there far more deserving than Gore.
