Agreed. It would likely be a cordial affair. Top off the fact that most people on here are likely socially awkward introverts.

Just a point of fact: introverts aren't socially awkward. They are simply drained by small talk and too much stimuli. They also tend to listen more than they talk and they typically don't give their opinions unless asked. When they do speak, it's usually after some thought and not just a passing thought either.

Sure. That is why I said "socially awkward introverts". That means introverts that are socially awkward. The tech industry is full of them. I have worked with them my whole career. I went to school with them, worked with them as peers, and manage them now. I myself am an introvert, but luckily not socially awkward. It has regularly helped me in my career in the tech industry to get my head above the rest. So I am well aware that it all introverts are socially awkward.

Funny anecdote. My friends outside of work are not tech people and rarely introverted. From people I played soccer or hockey with in highschool/college to people I mountain bike with now. I am usually the person organizing rides, hockey pick up games, grab a beer after the kids are down, cookouts, etc. Everyone laughs at me when I tell them I am introverted, but in reality I really am. I need my space, I get drained by social interaction, and I have to put effort in to interact. I also excel at concentration and working by myself....I just realize the benefits of regular social interaction and I force myself to participate...and I rarely regret it.

There are quite a few people here that I think I would have a great time meeting. Oddly enough, more of them are on the other side of the isle from me. I'm only ever in Alberta or Missouri though, unless a supplier is flying me to a trade show somewhere...

The railgun instagib mod was awesome! Damn I miss those days.

So does the q3 clan we all formed....we still play ra3 and q3.
Quake champions looks promising , most of us think it has potential.

Yea , internet tuff guys.I've actually met a few....Bahaha !!
..but it's an honest opinion all the same.
I've heard the same thing before , but never seen it ever , even at 500 person LANs ..I have'nt heard of any actual 'punching' or fighting.Mostly just nerds getting too drunk and barfing on themselves.

I met my q2 lithium clan back in '98, drove 700 miles to Michigan for a weekend-long lan party. It was really awesome, with only one guy turning out to be a know it all douche.
See? These things can work, if my anecdotal proof means anything.
Also, BrainEater- What's on tap and do you have Molson Cider hehe? Calgary is about 6 hours for me, but I have been looking at a hand made acoustic guitar that a guy has in Innisfail, which is fairly close ;)

We should all do an MBTI at or before this meetup. It has no real utility as a psychologic testing instrument, and something I had interest in as an adolescent, but recently I returned to it and found it surprisingly helpful, particularly to apply here.

FYI, I'm an INFJ.

I think it would be fun.

Some of us have been posting here for awhile, it would be cool to actually meet with the eloquent and educated types IRL.

Still, I can see posters like RAG or some other troll/e-thug ruining it for everyone. In my experience obnoxious people and alcohol don't mix. I'd want to be there for the conversation, not to see a troll full of loud mouth soup find out the hard way that insults and threats go over different when they're delivered in person.

I think those of us in the lounge would listen to my opinions that I hope World War 3 happens soon. I've posted here about it a few times but I haven't spammed my beliefs about it.
