I was searching for a thread on the olympics and accidentally left P&N in the search parameters. There was a thread "debating" (read people flaming back and forth) Bush's use of the word "Olympics" in a campaign ad. Both sides had me shaking my head in disgust.
It is the perfect reminder of why every time I think "I should get up to speed on politics. Maybe I should go read P&N to get informed." I just drop that line of thought.

That was indeed a particularly stupid thread. They aren't all like that. That thread was a good illustration, though, of the dynamic that can develop in P&N when a slightly hazy issue (in that case, the Bush campaign's reference to the Iraqi and Afghani Olympic teams, in spite of the disapproval of the IOC/USOC and the Iraqi team) falls directly on partisan lines. People do sometimes get nasty.
Of course, it doesn't help when people start troll threads, like the ones PM started this morning. There are people on P&N who pretty much exist solely to do this.
