I know it's a ways off, but with a potential smear campaign on hilary, and kerry's potential run in 2008...i'd like everyone here to:

a) post the RNC candidates you'd think would be the most electable in 2008.
b) post the DNC candidates you'd think would be the most electable in 2008.
c) would you be willing to change sides, candidate pending...and who would make you change.

It's an opinion. you guys are into politics, it is fairly easy to see the ppl with enough backing from the party to run.
It doesnt have to be a mainstream candidate. Just who he/she is and why most electable.

RNC, no clue, theres only a few I'd like to see up there, and my fave is a longshot.

DNC, I'd like to see Leiberman get it.

Of course. Liebermann might as well change parties. He's as conservative as Zell Miller, just not as rabid.

DNC- obama/hispanic dude from NM (P/VP) can't remeber the guys name right at this moment

RNC- McCain/ Guliani (i might just swing for this if they can cut the bs and swing the RNC back to moderates and i'm a democrat)

and since primaries are involved, i think
D - hilary (will at least show up, even if not in a serious attempt)
R- rice (there is a large clamoring for her to at least step up. i think the rnc will appease that)
i think the republicans might go with another under the radar candidate much like bush was for a lot of people in 2000. i even heard things like jeb bush...but i dont know how much stock id put in that. seems like people just getting excited.

Jeb Bush will not run.

Rice's name might be tossed around as a possible VP, but definitely not as a president.

a lot of it will depend on the next 3 years of the Bush presidency, though. if things go well, we might see a lot of Bush alumns throwing their hat into the ring. if things go poorly, however, the party will probably run as far away as possible, and we'll probably see McCain, a mid-western governor, and a couple relatively unknown congressmen running in the Republican primaries.

It would be nice to see McCain and Obama going against each other. Unfortunately those two candidates are too electable to be selected by the primaries. It's a pity too because I would actually think about voting for one of the major parties then.

exactly on a purely theorethical basis, House and Senate members have a harder time winning. People in the legislative branch have a voting record that their opponent(s) will shred apart. Vote yes, you alienate half the people. Vote no, you alienate the other half.
When was the last time a person was elected to the Presidency directly from the legislative branch? JFK? Governors win because they have executive experience and won't need to explain away voting records as much.
For the Democrats, it should be a southern governor or a very charamatic person.
For the Republicans, they will probably go with a safe choice.
A lot depends on what happens these next three years.

I will absolutely hurl if Jeb wins the Republican nomination.

RNC...I honestly don't know. I'd vote for McCain, but I'd prefer a more conservative guy. I like Guiliani, but he's way too liberal for my tastes.
DNC...Lieberman, I'd actually consider voting for him. He's honest, and is actually in step w/ Bush's foreign policy.

I didn't vote Kerry this time around only because I am in a blue state, but if Lieberman gets the ballot... hmm there is no puke icon.

And I HOPE you mean Guiliani is too CONSERVATIVE for your tastes.

And yes its too early to tell.

Yes. I would vote for the better person. A party affiliation is just a letter in front of their name as far as I'm concerned. :)

If I like the R. candidate better than the D. Candidate.

I'll worry about who to vote for when the time comes.
