CSR at DELL (that doesnt know much bout laptop) told me that we have only 1 slot for expansion !!! this is very rare as most laptop give out 2 expansion slots with the default memory inside the MOBO.

From where, which website, which vendor which deal. Not to information are we. This is definately not a deal but more of a I need info type of post. Maybe the mods can move this to IWANNAKNOW or something. Definately not a hot deal with only 32 megs of ram. This laptop can be bought on the streets. Just my 2 cents

I do work for Dell tech support. Usually all laptops come with 2 expansion slots. THose CSR sales rep, usually don't know anything more than what a normal person would know. Their job is just to SELL SELL SELL. Duh, otherwise they wouldnt be working there. Usually laptops come with expansion slots capable up to 512 MB of ram, depends what kinda laptop. Those 3800's are usually junk IMHO. Go for the 4000 if your going to get one, just my 2 cents. If you have any questoins about Dell, ask me, I'd be more than happy to answer them to the best of my ability.

I wouldnt even say cold. This deal kinda,... sucks! heh. you get probably get a 4000 or so, with 64mb for about lower the price. I dont even know why a laptop would come with 32mb Unless it's referbished or something.

Hmm, I thought it was a pretty good deal. Add $90.00 for a Crucial 128 meg chip and you have a pretty hot laptop. At least I hope so because I bought one. It cost me a little more because I upgraded to a 10 gig drive, PIII-750 and a better battery.

XZiler8r, you have me a little worried saying most of the 3800's are junk. I almost bought the 5000e, but I was able to upgrade to a comperable battery and the rest of the components the same and able to get a 750 CPU for less than the 5000e with a 600. I was giving up 2 years of waranty and 32 meg of RAM, but either way I was going with a Crucial memory upgrade ( factory memory is way expensive). What are some of the problems with the 3800's, I think I still have time to change my order to a 5000e. I don't want to spend the money for the portability of the 4000, but would give up 150 mhz if I was getting a much better unit.

macssuck - First I would recommend getting a Dell Inspiron laptop, now we just have to decide which model and features you want. Unfortunately you just missed out on an incredible deal that Dell had going they were offering $100 off (and still are), a Free DVD upgrade ($100 value), free ground shipping ($50 value), and best of all if you order through MSN Passport 20% off your purchase.

I would first of all recommend reading these two great threads which talk a lot about Dell laptops, read me first, read me second..

The two Dell Inspiron models I would recommend are the 4000 and 5000e.

A few questions:
1) Why do you need or want a laptop?
2) Do you plan using it for work, home or as a $2,600 DVD Player and Paper Weight (like me)?
3) Will this be your primary/main PC? How much time per day or week will you be using this laptop?
4) Will you be playing games on your laptop? If so, which games?

RossMAN sorry I didn?t say this earlier but the laptop (actually 5 of them) will be purchased for the school I work at one of the laptops will go to the principal and 3 of them will go the French teacher I believe and I will be sharing the other one. I?m not really sure what ill do with mine yet ill probably just let the other person use it. The French class has some CD's that they want to use and the principal needs video out but those are the only things I have been told.
