Ownership of a file

Hey All,
I've got a file here at work that I cannot get rid of! It resides on our server (which is W2k) and the file is a PDF and it thinks the file is open somewhere else. After doing an amazing amount of looking around I can safely say that the file is NOT open anywhere else. For some reason w2k thinks that it is and won't let us delete it.

Is there a way to take complete control of a file and remove it even though someone might be looking at it?

...so you've checked the open files listing on the server from Computer Management > Shared Folders > Open Files ?

As far as taking control of a file, someone with administrator access could take ownership of the file and then change the permissions to allow them to delete the file.

Have you tried rebooting the server ?

A tool such as handleex from sysinternals will tell you who has the file open.

You could put a deny-all ACL on the file and reboot, thus guaranteeing no one can open the file when the server comes back up, then delete the file.

Can't you unshare that particular directory, delete the folder and restart the share?
