A mobile duron 1.1 ghz ..... a mobile P3 993-m mhz....a mobile celeron 1.2ghz.....
so which one is the best among these 3 ?

thanks

duron are general faster then their celeron counter parts of fsater speed. and since a normal durin is pretty close at the same speed the duron should be there faster one here.

any celeron clocked that high is probably a tualatin core celeron
which means it will be on the .13 process and have 512kb L2 cache
all of which make it much better than the other two options

i think only the p3 tualatins have 512kb L2 cache...
well....about those processors....it's actually on 3 different notebooks....different brands....same price....specs are almost the same...
128mb ram....20 gig hdd....Win XP.....built in ethernet 10/100mpbs...56k modem....

duron 1.1 (compaq presario).....p3 933m (toshiba satellite).....celeron 1.2ghz ( also a toshiba satellite)
just want to know which one is better...the notebook will be used generaly for programming work...college assignments....surf the net...
non gaming....no heavy graphical stuffs like photoshop ...

what do u think ?

All else being equal, go for the PIII-933. It has 512K cache and the others have 256K. Your compiles will go faster with a bigger L2. Other than that, the processors are actually quite close in performance.

its really hard to compare across laptops because theres so many other slow things in there. buy them all and keep the fastest one.

Like I said, very little difference. If you're going to be doing a lot of compiling, then get the PIII w/512k as it will be your friend (can address more RAM with a bigger L2). Otherwise, it really doesn't matter.

Really.

No notebook p3 at 933 will have 512K cache. The celeron will be faster by a fair margin. The celeron is a tualatin core with 256K cache, similar speed to a pentium3 coppermine of the same speed in Mhz. The most important thing probably, imo, is the notebook chipset. Make sure you get a decent chipset with decent integrated video.

Actually, all P3-m's have full speed 512k cache on die. Link

Because of that, along with a faster FSB, it'll be faster than either of the other two options listed above.

alright...i'm may be getting the compaq presario 700 series....the one with duron 1.1ghz...i hope it's not slow for a non gaming notebook...it comes with 128mb pc 133 ram...and i get another stick of 128mb free ....it's a little cheaper than the 2 toshiba satellite.....so i guess it's a better choice....anyone own a presario 700 series notebook ? care to share your feedback ?

Unless you're getting an amazing deal, I would stay away from Compaq laptops. Almost everybody I know who has had one has had problems with it. Eventhough Compaq's support is very good and fast (they changed the screen on one of my friend's laptop in less than 5 days, and the laptop was 2 years old) it is never fun.

I would go with either: Toshiba, IBM or Dell.

This guy is going to do whatever he wants to do anyway, he really doesn't want any advice or listen when he gets it. I don't know why I bothered.
