The WRX will win in performance and balance, the A4 wins in luxury and refinement, it's that easy of a choice, really... :)

You guys crack me up. Like I said, please correct me if I am wrong. I never claimed to be an Audi expert let alone a car expert like some of you. I think some of you fail to realize that you can also get an ECU for the WRX to increase the hp. Take a look at Vishnu Performance Stage upgrades . This one of many mods available for the WRX. I for one can afford a $60,000 car. But, I would rather spend my money on something more important. Also, I would rather spend $22,600 (This is how much I payed for my WRX. I pay no sales tax) for a car than $40,000 for an Audi S4. I could then spend about $2000 and get my car to about 300hp. Of course, I don't like spending money anyways because I am a Scrooge:) .

Like I said. Don't let me pick your car for you. You decide. Do the research.

Ahem - how does the Passat even enter into this? A $40,000 family sedan with mediocre performance (thanks to its mandatory-in-the-U.S. automatic) like that does not belong in the same category as the two cars he is considering.

I don't think 0-60 in 6.5 official VW spec with an auto , which is usually conservative (or 0-62 in 6.5 as tested by CAR) can be stated as "mediocre performance". As if you consider the fact that it beats all other of it's contendors in the class aka Merc E-class, Lexus GS3xx and BMW 530i, it's not shabby at all.

Come 2-3 months VW will release the W8 with 6 speed with sport suspension and BBX wheels. That should easily shave atleast a second of that figure. That's not exactly "mediocre" :)

IMO it's just the perfect understated Q-ship. The only thing lacking in it would be the navigation system.

I test drove a WRX and loved it. The salesman told me to stomp it and the turbo kicked in and I was flying around curves at 80 without even braking. The AWD is great and the juice in that sucker really feels good. Its a smooth ride, looks cool, and has a good amount of space to boot!

I can't judge the Audi though...never been in one...I did thoroughly enjoy the WRX though.

Not an owner, but my opinion might help ya. If I had the $25K lying around to get the WRX I would.
