We've had threads to talk about those things that we think are particularly well done and well run - how about those things that don't live up to the hype? Just a couple to get you started:

Overrated things:

Hotels: Most FourSeasons and RitzCarltons, almost all European hotels - in particular older "grand" hotels.

Restaurants: Le Bernardin (the food is good, but the room looks like the lobby of a JWMarriott), The Four Seasons, Zuni Cafe in SF (shoot me, but I've never had a good meal there), Sparks Steak House (ALWAYS over cook Medium Rare), Masa ($400/person to be abused).

Apparel: Bally Shoes (poorly made for the price)

Cars: Maserati (have looked bad for years)

Movies: Titanac - ( ARRRGGGHHH!!!!! ), Forest Gump (How did this puff piece beat Shawshank and Pulp Fiction?), GoodFellas (I get it, real mobsters are really violent)

Actors: Nicolas Cage (I just watched ConAir on cable - his southern accent is the funniest thing since Kevin Costner switching accents in Robin Hood)

Books and Authors: The DiVinci Code - Every chapter ends like a batman episode!, Caleb Carr (The Alchemist was one of the worst books I've ever read), JD Salinger (yeah, you read me right - wayyy over praised)

I'll think of some more.

How about Da Vinci Code. Horrendously written, an absurd plot and an overall pseudo-intellectual approach. A badly-written thriller doesn't become "intellectual" just because it uses art and architecture as plot devices.

Movies: E.T.

Manipulative crap. Scientists are about to make what might be the most important discovery of all time (intelligent aliens), and we're supposed to root for the alien to get away? Sorry, I was pulling for the scientists. I don't mind being manipulated by a movie, but I resent being manipulated in a way that makes the good guys look like evil monsters.

Star Wars:

The consensus view seems to be that the recent episodes are not up to the standards set by the first 3. Go back and look at the first 3. They're garbage. Horrendous acting, horrendous scripts, ridiculous plots. When they came out the only thing they had going for them was special effects, but now even that doesn't work, since we've been there and done that with lots of other movies.

ET and Star Wars fans, you're now free to flame away.

Things that I can do without:

1) Online dating

2) Hollywood couples adopting 3World babies.

3) Blogs

4) 40+ women who dress exactly like their 20 year old daughters

5) Another movie by Michael Bay

6) Michael Moore

7) Fox "News" Channel

8) CNN

9) Having to pay, like, $12 for FOUR Gillette Mach 3 razor blades.

10) The bloated New York Times Sunday edition

The sun. The sun sucks. Also The Matrix. That movie was barely 'B' grade. Wolverines. They aren't that cool, etc.

LOL... you are something else my friend... by the way, what do you charge for your time?

GRIN

Much cheaper sadly lol, The agency I work through doesn't take that much of a cut compared to others, so it runs now from 600-700/night. I did start at a much lower 425 average a night. But, it seems the males always get paid less in the industry for some reason.

99% of pop music including all R&B, hip-hop, rap, etc.

'It' girls eg Palmer-Tomkinson, Hilton, etc.

Women in general.

Anything to do with wizards, dragons and all that BS eg LOTR (although a well made movie), Potter, D&D, etc.

No, I still work in an office, and go to univeristy, so anonymity is attractive for me.

I came on drunk and made a bunch of "hi" and "hellllo" posts, and got baned the next morning. Nef was apparently a person here who made a bunch of useless posts (ATOT founder?) and was banned for it.
