Overpromised and underdelivered - Acer's new 4K Gsync HDR monitor

It even comes with a fan!

Basically you're paying 2000$ for QA testing a first-gen product with dodgy implementation of technology that is notoriously difficult to implement reliably.

Holy crap! That's kind of a mess for $2k. Hopefully the Asus will be more refined.
Initial rumblings i've seen from various sources seem to indicate that the Asus is more or less more of the same. They use the same panel afterall and both use near identical implementation for the FALD zones which leads to pretty bad FALD haloing when HDR is used.

Maybe in another year or 18 months. But the current implementations of 4k 144hz HDR are just not worth the price tag. Not to mention being a year late to boot.

Lame. We've been waiting quite awhile for a convergence of the best tech in a single monitor but it looks like we'll have to wait awhile longer.

Pretty much why I decided to use my TV for PC gaming even though it's only 4k 60Hz. I'm fine with that as I'll not be hitting 144fps in very many titles at 4k that's for sure.
