i'm sorry, but i REALLY like this game and have been playing it non-stop for hours

IF you like Fable, you will like OverLord ... the humor is so clever and the voice acting isn't at all bad.

However it is Fable with a "party" ... and you get to choose to be really evil or 'chaotic good' evil ... the minions are what make this game .. they love you and sacrifice their lives for you so willingly ... their life energy imbues your armor, helmet [domination] and weapons. Plus you can use all 4 kinds of minions together ... wisely if you choose.
- For example, your "Greens" are the assassin/poisoners ... you use your banner to hold them in place [invisible] until the Boss you lured past them with the suicide Browns is triggered by you and they all jump on his back and finish him off. The Reds are the ranged attack and the blues are healers.

Great game so far ... all the Quests and mini-quests "make sense" - unlike Fable and B&W2 where they are often unrelated to the plot. The ONLY thing i DON'T like is that you have to "figure out" [puzzles] AND there is no "anytime save' ...so you have to be careful or you have to start from the last checkpoint.

But is is not hard ... and very engrossing

... OK ... back to the Dark Tower

i see a real twist coming ... things will not be the same when i get back from the desert. i HATE this map ... sandworms and puzzles to make you puke ... plus NO G-D "anytime save" ... so you restart from the checkpoint.
i figured it out ... kinda 'bugged' me for awhile with the worms. ;)
[the in game hint "avoid them" is stupid and wasted a lot of my time]

- in fact, i thought i might finish OverLord this weekend ... no way ... it is longer then i thought - especially if you want to do everything ... unfortunately, i will be stuck with some "corruption" as i didn't use a walkthru - or need one - although an 'in game' map would sure be nice; the paper one sucks.

It is more 'involved' then i thought ... and it is a hoot to have 40 minions ripping everything apart ... but a little too much "repetition" as was said before. It needed some further refinement, balance and development instead of just "more" minions.

So far "pretty good" ... the original impression was "very good"
... i will give a final update when i finish

You mean chaotic evil or lawful evil...or perhaps neutral evil.

i am not sure what i mean ... it isn't RPG, really ... but probably "chaotic evil" is closest to the "100% Corruption" of the Evil/Evil [really evil] Dark Lord

You get to be really bad; chaotic evil - called in-game "full corruption" measured by a percentage ... i.e. *Kill everything*

or

You get to be bad, 'chaotic good'; - but called in-game "smart evil" ... which has it's own rewards like worshipers grateful to be alive that produce produce and food for your pillaging minions.

i am almost done .. the Desert map is TEDIOUS and i HATE it [anytime save would be a real plus] .. the rest was OK ... coming up to a *twist* i can see from a mile away ... and hope the ending is good.

i think SpellForce2 is next.

I was just pointing out that the character you play can't really be chaotic good. At least, as far as I've come he can't. I'd say it was more of a lawful evil. Not that it matters anyway.

Good game, a bit tedious. I would recommend at least renting it, perhaps not actually purchasing it.

I'm on the desert part as well and hating it. Those stupid worms..grr. Anyway, hopefully I can be it tonight or someday soon.

I figured out how to kill them with the bugs, however I find it so tedious. Meh, I just got past the desert part, so I'm glad that over. Trying to get the ultimate horde achievement before I move on though.

I played the demo for Overlord and got bored with it after about 30 mins or so...sure the minions component of the gameplay is amusing, but I can see it getting old really quick...that and the control scheme absolutely sucks for mouse and keyboard.

well i'll be damned :|

Vista did one of those rare blue screen crash dumps as OverLord was loading and i may have lost my saved games and corrupted my profile - at the LAST part of the game. Unfortunately there is only one or two save slots and if i can even recover after uninstalling and reinstalling, i may not be able to finish playing it ... i sure won't restart :(

checkpoint-save sucks to high heaven

update/edit:
fixed it .. i did a uninstall and reinstall of the game and found a recent save that worked fine

and backed up the save and profile again

phew ...

I do NOT recommend OverLord

i gave it a 6.9/10 ... passable, entertaining ... "OK" ...

ultimately - compared to Fable LC, the story falls FLAT ... you get a Deus Ex Machina Ending that really doesn't follow a carefully crafted story ... stoopid imo ... and it is TEDIOUS - if the game had 'anytime save' it would be a lot shorter
--So ... the first half is *good* ... then they rushed it ... recommended only IF you are out of other games and don't want to replay DE for the nth time :p
- recommended for "bargain bin"

FINALLY, what game should i play next ... i want a good story:
SpellForce2 ... Condemned ... Dreamfall ... maybe Scarface?
[i don't think i want to play CoJ or LP next]

I went into playing this game with the advice that it was a 'rent only' game, so I rented it and wasn't that disappointed. The first half of the game was great IMO, but I agree that the second half was a downhill slope. The ending was lame, but I kind of like the incorporation of the seven deadly sins.

The minions are so adorable though.

its 'hook' is that it IS a "minion game" ... unfortunately i think this is but one of the first - i think we will see it beaten to death.

it appears that they had a great idea, the beginnings of a good story, started to develop it - and then fired their writer and got lost and decided to just finish it off quickly.

what is the point of money? you get a ton of it. and you can build yourself an almost indestructible suit with a couple of thousand minions -which you can get by going over the same old ground over-and-over.

i can't imagine playing it over again ... was there much difference between "really corrupt evil" and "smart evil"? i ended up with 3% corruption - once i accidentally killed a peasant, i couldn't recover to get no corruption.

Great ideas - Flawed game

I am getting bored of it. I'm sick of the 'pickup the egg to lure the bird away' crap. That drives me nuts and serves no purpose.

I did not like the jungle. I'm not liking the sewers. I haven't got to the desert, guess that's going to suck too.

I'm massively disappointed... I was very excited for this game after playing the demo.
