I have not played the first Overlord, but Overlord II sounded fun so I gave it a shot.
It's pretty fun, especially after the first couple hours.
It gets better when you can branch out and choose what to do.
The controls sounded somewhat complicated at first, but they are actually quite easy once you learn them. For reference, I am using the 360 gamepad as I like to lie back on my couch and play.
You (the Overlord) control your minions and through the course of the game collects different colors of minions that help you complete specific tasks.
You begin with "Browns" that are simply melee fighters, then continue on to "Reds" who are fire minions and so forth. Your minions look like Gremlins and do and say quite funny things. They follow you around and attack when instructed to and help you progress through the game.
You invade villages, kill or subdue (mind control) the villagers, break stuff, blow stuff up, kill baby seals and much more. It's entertaining and doesn't take itself seriously.
I'm enjoying playing it, it has great visuals and sound and the controls are tight.
Anyone else playing it?

Same, just need to get through Prototype first :p. I have the demo installed, if it's anything like the original it's worth playing.

Demo on steam. Still have yet to try it and never got around to getting more then a hour into the first one. If controls are good I'll burn my 360 copy of the first one.

Well the first game was pretty good too. From the demo of this one I couldn't tell much difference- the graphics seemed a bit more polished, but that's about it. The minions seemed to move exactly the same way they did in the first one (I like how they auto-upgrade their weapons).

I have been planning on checking them out. I loved Dungeon Master 1 & 2 back in the day... In fact...

/me runs off to check GOG.

No dice. :( GOG needs to get the Bullfrog catalog ASAP.

Finished it last night :] Thought it was as fun as the first one + improvements on the game mechanics. Overall though, it is still not an indepth game, but I didn't expect it to be.

That's why I'm enjoying it. like I said, it doesn't take itself too seriously and it's just fun going around tearing stuff up. The storylines may be lacking, but I'm not playing it for that. It reminds me of the first Fable in a way, just with less talking and more destruction. :)

There is online multiplayer...
Does this game run like crap for anyone else? I have it on all high and it runs terrible, but I have a E7200 @ 3.8GHz and two 4850s...

I think it runs great and I only have an 8600GTS and a 3.2GHz Dual Core with 4GB RAM. I've noticed alot of people saying that it runs really well on their system and is well optimized.

I think it was just the multiplayer... I played the single player and it works great. The multi when I tried it ran terrible.

btw, I hate this game. It makes me like physically sick playing it. It's really aggravating and frustrating. It's an easy game, but like... it's just boring.

overlord 2... short story.... low content... almost no multiplayer at all... only 1v1 and 4 maps... at the time you get the blues... the game is relative at its ending....

the first one was fun till about half way

then it got *tedious* :(
.. . repetitive

and the minions would get rebellious when their AI went haywire [rarely, admittedly; but still frustrating]

and boring .. there was nothing new once you had all your minions; a little fun when you had to "start over" near the end :p

plus it was irritating as hell to watch the damn console port replay the same G-D cutscene over when you died again because there was no anytime save

it is fine for bargain bin and the first half .. then cheat and walkthru to see the ending is my advice for Overlord

Well, almost finished with it.
Only a few parts (the spider queen and the part directly after and a few more) were too frustrating to be fun, but the rest of the game was entertaining enough.
There were things that added nothing to the game, such as the mistresses, but it didn't bother me.
I heard the last battle was frustrating, so I may just try it once and quit playing if it truly is. I don't want to leave with a bad taste in my mouth.
I played it in 1 hour spurts, so it didn't get old. I could see how it would if you sat there and played half the game all at once.
Like I said before, mindless fun with a few good puzzles to figure out thrown in.
(I'm not an online player or a multiplayer, so those parts don't apply to me.)

I just got the green minions. Am I about half way through the game? 1/3?

I'd say maybe around halfway through.
