Overloading my PSU?

430 watt PSU (TruePower2.0)

This should be enough PSU for what I have (I think).

Every so often my 400GB storage drive shuts down and is removed from device manager. Only a cold boot will make the drive reapear.


Bad HD or not enough PSU to keep everything going?

HD is maybe three months old.

have a JB series here(160GB) does same thing ..believe its a problem with the hd's pcb ..🙁 ..had another(250 JB series) did the same it tho was within warranty 🙂 rma was quick from wd
 
Well I think the drive may be overheating somehow. When I run with the cover off the drive works fine.

All temp scans show the temps are low. Hmmm.

the 160 had a dedicated 80mm blowing on it(main unit was very cool to the touch) ..that's why I knew it to be the pcb ..gl
 
What kind of motherboard do you have?

This computer I am on right now has a Gigabyte motherboard and it was doing that exact same thing when I got it, untill I updated the BIOS one time and it went away.
 
Ok so I swapped the channel on my HDs and the problem went away. Now today the Raptor is doing the same thing so I am thinking the SATA controller on the mobo is going out. 🙁
 
How old is your TP 2.0? If it's over 3 years(past warrenty) open it up and look at the Fuhjyyu capacitors. A SATA controller can be knocked out by up stream power.
90% of the PSU problems on this board are Smart/TruePower units.

I am pretty sure at this piont the PSU is not involved. 🙁 I almost wish it was the culprit as I would just replace it.
 
Most logic chips are supplied from the 5V rail. When caps go bad the voltage can/will spike at boot. A DMM will not record it, an O'scope is needed. Good luck...That is all!
