Overheating Issue

I have a compaq presario V2000 with a turion64, when I first got the laptop I had not problem with heat or the fan working over. Now it seems like the fan is running constantly, I keep the top closed when not in use, when I open it back up to use it again the touchpad is often hot. Sometimes too hot to touch.

Any ideas of what the problem could be?
 
CTRL + ALT + DEL and see if you have processes hogging system resources, these could be running and telling the computer to cool itself.
 
What would be considered "hogging" system resources? I know there are some programs like Iexplore that are using a lot...but there are some that I don't know also. ashserv.exe...I have no idea what that is. I am running spybot and some cleanup right now to see if that takes care of the problem.
