Overcurrent on 4-port USB a big problem?

I have a 4 port self powered USB Hub by Asante that has 2 LED's for each port: One for Power (green) , the other one Overcurrent (red). When I turn my PC off, two of the LEDs stay green but two of the ports turn the Overcurrent light on and keep it on until I turn the PC on. Will this harm my USB devices? I have a Scanner, MS Optical Mouse, Zip250, and a Logitech Windgman Rumblepad all hooked up to the hub.

It shouldn't damage your USB devices...but try running the hub without the power. It should work ok like that. My linksys USB hub works ok without the power adapter.

I thought about it but I've heard that if you have too many things draining power off the USB bus, then its gonna burn out the USB port on the mobo. A thing like the Rumblepad probably drains a lot of power when its in use, since its one of those "force feedback" gamepads.

I don't have a lot of experience with this but doesn't the overcurrent light mean that your USB device is drawing more power than your hub can handle? Are you plugging your usb into wall power? Maybe it's time to buy a more powerful hub?

yea, my hub is plugged into a surge suppressor. All the lights go back to normal when I turn the pc back on again and why would the two devices be drawing poer if theyre turned off anyway?

Oops, my mistake. Of course the hub would be plugged in if it lights up while the computer is off. The behavior of your hub is a puzzle to me.
