Can you propose an alternative to overclocking a 3200+/3000+ venice to its potential speeds without spending extra on that dfi board, "overclocking" ram and ample power supply?

The DFI board doesn't have a whole lot to do with the CPU overclocking. It is primarily recommended to provide extra volts to the RAM.
However, with a divider on the RAM, you won't even need to overclock it. Just about any NF4 board will do nicely.
The Chaintech VNF4 Ultra is a solid recommendation. It is what I have and I am able to pump my 3000+ to 2.8Ghz on air without any problems, though I lowered it to 2.7Ghz because I don't think the extra CPU voltage is worth the 100Mhz it affords me. Still ran cool at 45C at that overclock though.
Others will recommend, e.g. MSI, Asus.

What do you have your settings at? Whats your FSBxmulti and Vcore? Also what do you have your divder at? I'm trying to learn this OC'ing thing as well.

Well, I'm at work so I'll have to check the numbers:
Venice 3000+ @ 2745Mhz (9x * 305HTT) 1.55V Vcore
HT @ 915Mhz (3x * 305HTT)
RAM @ 405Mhz (305HTT * DDR133) [not sure what the timings are, but so far this Value VX has been unimpressive in only running rated timings at 2T and 2.9V...will have to work this one out

Ah so you used the 3x LDT multi...is there a big difference between using the 3 vs the 4 multi for HTT? Do most people use 3 ?
Also how is it possible to run your RAM at 405mhz? I'm a little confused. Your on a 1:1 ratio for your RAM vs your HTT right? Please explain the RAM part? Thanks!
Hey. The important thing is the end frequency not going over 1Ghz. 305 * 4 would be 1.2+Ghz and that would just plain not even POST

There really isn't any performance hit for underclocking this, but a huge stability hit for overclocking it.Also, I quoted my RAM at "405Mhz (305HTT * DDR133)" the DDR133 is just how my mobo BIOS indicates the multiplier. DDR133 is 2:3 FSB where DDR200 would be 1:1. So it's really 305 * 2 / 3 * 2(DDR) = 406.7Mhz (ok my initial math was a little off because I rounded).
Yes but I am running it at 2.9v 2.5-4-4-8 2T I believe. That's pathetic for what this RAM should be capable of. Again, I haven't actually messed with it too much. It's very possible I had some setting wrong. I just put this together last wednesday and have been out of town from friday-monday

Try at 3.2+v, and it will do SO much better (from personal experience with other UTT)
I would but 2.9V is the max my mobo will go. I think I'll work with OCZ and then maybe swap it out for some different RAM. It was a poor choice without a DIMM booster -- I realize that now after I bought it
.Even still, it won't meet the specified 2.8V 3-4-4-8 1T @ DDR400 so there's something wrong or I'm doing something wrong.

see how some get 300 X 9 on inexpensive ram and an inexpensive 3000?
your mileage will vary- it's the luck of the draw
you do not need the DFI and the $$$ unless you are going to tweek ALL the ram settings to the MAX, run very expensive ram or run really high volts on very expensive ram- that's a different world
if getting a new ps get a 24 pin one some motherboards REQUIRE IT
you can always use an adapter for 20 pin socket
see how some get 300 X 9 on inexpensive ram and an inexpensive 3000?
