i have an athlon 2500+ barton, if my cooling is good enough, can i easily overclock by just changing my fsb too 200 instead of 133?, my ram is DDR3200(400mhz)

Yes :)

Well it should be going from 166 to 200 fsb. The 2500+ should have a fsb of 166, so 11 x 166 = 1800 something (2500+ speeds). If you bumped the fsb to 200, so 11 x 200 = 2200 (3200+ speeds).

Hope that helped.

what we have here is a simple equation....and that is FSB x multiplier = mzh.........now if you took a simple algrebra course you know the mzh devided by fsb = multiplier or mzh devided by multiplier = fsb.

so this tells you that there is more than one way to skin this cat....you dont have to jump in such huge increases as 133 to 166 or to 200....you can adjust the multipler by .5 to get the same result and understand the hangs if you have gone to far for the cpu vcore.....

In other words...you have not done enough reading to do this and need to realy realy look into this cause it is a real possibilty that you smoke that cpu/mobo and out at least some big dollars....

It all goes deep and unless you are preparred to replace your system...and this is real...run at the manufactures specs.....

I only say this becouse of your message and my past mistakes...this is not a game for amatuers

hell why I wrote this I dont know....go ahead and fry that system...its not my dime...

Changing the multiplier is great and all....assuming he has an unlocked chip which most aren't.

You're right I shouldn't have told him to OC away without getting more info about his setup. What mobo and ram Burtie?

mobo is a biostar m7ncd, the 256 stick of ram is corsair value select, and the 512 is nanya..........they are both rated for DDR3200, i have the crappy stock cooling right now, but i plan to upgrade to the jet 7 or whatever it is, but i would be running it in silent mode, cause i like peace and quiet

and ya sorry my fsb is at 166 i think, cause my cpu is running at 1.83 ghz(stock speeds)

And i also have another question, if i get my cpu up to 3200 speeds, is it the same thing as having a 3200? or is there some loss for ocing, or cache size difference or something like that?

That board should do 200 fsb no problem...hell it's rated for that right? :)

Once you upgrade your cooling...set your vcore at 1.65-1.7, set the fsb to 200, and off you go. And yes if it's at 3200 speeds it's the same as a 3200. The L2 cache is the same. :D

The bartons are very well OCable, but definitely get an aftermarket cooling solution as w/my 2500+ about 175 was max, whereas with a Thermaltake Volcano 12+ 205 or so is max (I leave it at 200 because I have to turn the fan up to cool better and it sounds like a hairdryer) I also have corsair value select 3200 w/2.5 CAS but it doesn't OC very well, I can get about 215 or so max before it starts acting bad.

im sorry to seem like a nucance, but can someone please answer my question? will the jet 7 be enough cooling on quiet mode? i have 3 80mm fans, 1 side, 1 rear and 1 front set up rear outake and the other 2 intake, i also plan to get 2 120mm fans near christmas, but hopefully i will be ocing before then

Thanks

Go for a Thermaltake Silent Boost (make sure it's for socket A)... I've had a few, and they're silent, and they cool great. I don't know about a Jet 7.

i was looking at that aswell, would it be sufficient for an overclocked cpu?.....i also changed my bios to expert, and now i can change my fsb anywhere from 100-300 by 1mhz increments, but i don't know how to change my vcore, can anybody help with this?, my mobo is a biostar m7ncd
