Overclocking with Epox 8k3ae

I have a newegg 1600XP AROIA Y overclocked to 2100XP speeds on an epox 8k3ae (newest bios). I am using arctic silver 2 with SVC Golden Gate 40. My motherboard temps are around 30 degrees C and my idle temps are at 55 C and load to about 65-70. Should I get a better hsf? I'm at a UCLA dorm room right now so theres no ac and I'm worried about the heat.

BTW: This chip can only do 166 stable at 1.75V. Do you think its because of the motherboard or the hsf? Also, at 1.75 it wont even do 167 stable. I have 512mb samsung ddr 2700. Anyone know if the epox 8k3ae just sux at overclocking?

First of all, your temps are fine since they are actual core temps read from the internal diode. I'm not sure why you are complaining that the 1600+ won't go higher than 166mhz FSB, 1.75ghz with the default voltage of 1.75? Getting a 350mhz o/c @ default voltage is excellent....

A better HSF wouldn't hurt, but unless you are having stability issues, I wouldn't worry about it..you are well below the 95C max core temp of the XP. 🙂

That is still an excellent o/c. If you want to go higher than 166mhz FSB, you may need to bump the vcore even more, but it really isn't worth it as your 1600+ will probably not go much past 1.8ghz. I have one that will do 166mhz, 1.75ghz @ default vcore, but it takes 1.85 to do 1.8ghz. The extra heat and voltage is not worth the extra 50mhz IMO.
