Man...that makes me want the Noctua.

Just not a fan of how HUGE & HEAVY it is...

Get the VX or Megahalems Shadow. 99% of the performance without motherboard snapping torque! ;)

hi,

temp reading depends on T.J. Max value
why do you have it as 105C?
When I run realtemp I have it as 99C for the same i7-860
and this tjmax can be set, however as I read can NOT be get from CPU.
This might explain why one see one values and another one sees it in +/- 3-10C range.
yes, you get nice temp drop by moving from default hsf
as well as I moved to term contact 29 just a week ago.

Any one knows what's correct tjmax for i7-860?

He was using an outdated Coretemp, hence the incorrect TJ Max.

The latest results of my overclocking have been that after increasing VTT to 1.29volts it seems to be stable at 200 bclk x 14 cpu multiplier. So I tried a couple different setups including 200*20, 191*21 and 182*22. For all of these I set vcore to 1.34 up from 1.3. Here are some screenshots.
Too High:

Slow memory(6x):

Faster memory(8x):

I've concluded that while 4ghz is definitely plausible if I push vcore higher but do I really want to, not really. Performance is what I like and lower temps will be better during the Summer months.

I updated with another screen shot of the same clock speed with the ram multiplier set to 8 instead of 6.

Good overclocking :). I found that I was faced with a choice between 1.32v for 3.8GHz or 1.42v for 4.0GHz on my i5 750. The choice was fairly clear for sensible 24/7 running. These chips really seem to hit a wall at some speed and then just need a LOT of voltage to go higher.

The H50 is doing a good job for me, my temps are a bit better than yours but that depends also on the case airflow and room temperature. I'm really glad that my motherboard doesn't have to be bent by a brick.

Temps really jump up with linx on a heavy load, under more realistic conditions the temperatures are much lower so its actually quite fine to fun 24/7. Also my temperatures were much better at the lower ram speed.

Here are some updated screen shots showing what I'm talking about:
Conclusive stability test of twenty five passes in Linx:

Lower temps when using anything else but Linx:

So what I'm getting at is if my processor hits seventy something degrees during a gaming session who cares.

Hi, not speaking from personal info but from another thread regarding the H50 (think on these forums... but maybe it was a link to the corsiar forums... will have a search through history when i get bk on home PC) as i am interested in trying one of these myself.

Anyway... lots of people reported better temps with the pump/ hs mounted upside down. By this i mean the 'Corsiar' logo should be upside down when attached to the CPU/MB.

Run some benches and see for yourself :)

That is hilarious after I spent a fair bit of effort trying to keep it the right side up to make it look nicer...

would you attach BIOS screen shots for CPU & RAM settings? Pls
I'd like to see your turbo, C1E, HT, SpeedStep, c-state, cpu-v, dram-v, vmem, etc that changed from default for OC.

tnx

Thanks for the nice post, info and pics!

Looks like the sweet spot temp-wise for your cooler/cpu is 3.7 for hard 24/7 usage.
You could try for higher for light normal everyday usage.
