Overclocking Venice - HTT won't go past ~310

ok, first off, my specs:
venice 3200+
dfi ultra-d nf4
4x512mb OCZ platinum rev.2 pc3200

the highest i can get my venice 3200+ is ~2.56ghz with ~1.54v. im currently running at 285x9=~2.56ghz with a 9/10 memory divider. i tried running at 320x8 with a 5/6 divider and it wouldnt boot. my memory is obviously running faster, but i know my memory can handle 275mhz stable and at 320 with a 5/6 divider, its only running at ~266mhz, so its definitely not my memory.

i thought it was that my HTT couldnt handle 320, but then i tried 320x7 just to see for sure, and it DID boot at 320x7, but not 320x8.

can anyone explain whats going on?

what volatges are you lookin at thus far?
whats your HTT multiplier set at?...drop it to x3 if you havnt yet
take 2 of those sticks of ram out and run 1t command rate and see if you can get higher,..if you can go higher from that,...you know right away whats up and you know theres nothin more you can do with 4 sticks,...frankly im suprised you got 4 dimms filled and the memory controllr on th ea64 didnt crap out sooner,..but then again your also runnin a 2t,...even the newest a64 cores are a lil wierd with 4 sticks ,..especially with overclocking

dfi's pdf's on thier nforce 4's say for best overclocking performance and stability use slots 2 and 4 only

all this shouldnt really matter since i can run it at 310x7, but not 310x8 right?

but ive tried setting my chipset voltage up to 1.7 and still no go. ive seen others able to reach much higher HTT with DFI boards. DFI boards supposodly handle HIGH HTT, but not mine, so it seems =[.

ive tested my memory up to 270-275 stable, so its not my memory. venice or newer a64 processors have no problem with 4 dimms filled, as long as you run it at 2T.

i have a DFI board and mine hit 328x8 stable with prime. Hrm.. try upping HDT voltage?

My DFI NF3 250GB did 345HTT no problem when I had my wicked OCer of a Sempron 2800+ in there (that thing was doing 2.7ghz barely a notch above stock voltage).

My current DFI NF4 Ultra-D with the 6/23 BIOS does 325HTT so far no problem, and I haven't pushed it further yet. I've had nothing but outstanding HTT overclocking results with DFI thus far.

However, not all boards are created equal, so who knows. You may be near your max.

i got my 3200+ to 2.7 pretty easily. 270x10 although the temps were way to high because i had vcore at 1.568v forgot all the other settings that i had because it was like 3 months ago :/

Why are you trying to get 310htt? You have a 3200 - most people run these at 270x10 - 2700mhz. And since your ram runs at 270mhz, you can run it 1:1 and everything should be set.

A higher htt gives you little to no performance gain. You should be concerned only with the processor speed and ram speed.

Also be sure to test these parts individually. If you're going for a high HTT, first start out with your memory running on a ddr200 1/2 divider and your cpu running with a low multiplier (6x). Then start increasing the cpu multi and ram divider to see what happens.

And from what you've said so far, I'd guess that your processor isn't capable of anything over around 2500mhz, so running high HTT's isn't going to help you overclock any more. To test your max cpu overclock, you need to set the ram to 1/2, set the cpu multi to 10x, then start incrasing the htt until it's unstable.

older venice cores could hit 2700 pretty easily, but not the batches from a few months ago till now. mine can only hit 2.56, or 2.6 with 1.64v.

anyway, the reason im lowering the multiplier is because higher HTT=better performance. although the performance isnt noticable at all, im trying to get as much out of my CPU as i can =].

what i dont understand is i can do 310 and more with a 7x multiplier, but i cant with an 8x multiplier.
