I was afraid you were going to ask that. At the risk of being flamed, I purchased a XCLIO 450BL 450W Power Supply from Newegg. http://www2.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817189003.

I know it is cheaper than the "name brands", but the specs seem good and the two reviews indicate this company makes parts for some of the bigger names such as Antec. Newegg hasn't shipped yet, so I can probably still cancel. Please let me know if you think this PSU won't cut it.

Is that even a 24 pin PSU?

Realize that if you choose a bad power supply you can wreak havoc on your components. Especially if you go with a 20 pin PSU instead of the DFI recommended 24 pin PSUs.

This is a much better buy.

Maverick, the Xcilio does have dual rails and the 24pin connector. The specs (see below) seem to be as good as the Forston. You are, however, the second person who has recommended the Forston in this thread and the price at actbuy.com is excellent. I just tried canceling my Newegg order, but they say the unit has already shipped. So I guess I will have to take my chances with the Xcilio for now. Thanks for the input though.

XCLIO XClio 450BL ATX 450W Power Supply
Dual +12V: Yes
Efficiency: > 70%
Fans: 1
Hold-up Time: >20ms at full load, nominal line
Input Current: 5A Max
Input Frequency Range: 50~60Hz
Output: +3.3V@32A, +5V@30A, +12V1@15A, +12V2@17A, -12V@0.3A, +5VSB@2A
Over Voltage Protection: +3.3V, +5V and +12V
Overload Protection: 110-160%
PFC: Active

Those Amps look fine to me. Can't wait to see how far you will be able to push that Venice with the new power supply.(*my first post at this forum btw).

i know its cheaper cypress, i have one. it's not bad but...well lets just say i now have an antec tpII 550.

the 12v rail on mine was like 12.36-12.40 idle and dropped to 12.22 or so loaded when i tested with a multi. also, beware the max combined 3.3 and 5v line on that psu is only 150w, kinda low.

if you can cancel it, imo, you would be wise to and spend the extra $20 or so and get another.

i'm not bashing the psu, it is still in specs, but the drop in volts hampered my oc. my antec idles 12v rail is 11.99 and load 11.98-11.97.

i'm putting the x-clio in an htpc build eventually.

edit-btw, x-clio is made by channel well who as you mentioned make antec but its obviously not the same quality.

edit edit-- had to look this up for someone else dfi psu

rise4310, thanks for the input. Just so I understand, can you explain the difference the antec made in overclocking. In other words, what were you able to achieve with the antec that you weren't with the Xcilio? Thx

Yeah, got the Xclio and it didn't make a bit of difference. Still stuck at about 2.5 and can't run my memory with a 1T command rate. The 12V rails aren't the steadiest, and I will be returning this PSU to Newegg, but I'm not overly optimistic that a better PSU is going to make a difference in the overclock. That said, I'm looking at the Fortron AX500-A. I am assuming the 12v rails will be steady with the PSU?

P.S. I'm not going to order the Fortron until I get some feedback. Don't want to have to return this one too;) Am open to other suggestions.

virtualgames0, are you referring to my shoddy PSU or my shoddy overclock:) Seriously, do you think the Fortron AX500-A is an adequate PSU for overclocking a venice on a DFI NF4 Ultra? Will the rails be steady?

I've been out of the loop lately on PSUs.
But forton I hear is a good brand.
I used to have a 350W enermax when I had my Thunderbird 1.3GHz chip.
It would crash within minutes when I had it oc'ed to 1.53GHz.
Then I upgraded the PSU to a 431w Enermax, and runs 24/7 ROCK SOLID at 1.53GHz.

After reading through a number of posts here, I ordered the Seasonic S12-600. This should provide plenty of "clean" power and is supposed to be the quietest stock PSU available. We'll see.

Now I'm starting to think that the Venices have been speed binned. Those 2.8 results are coming from 3500+ parts. 3200+ parts seem to have been topping out at 2.6

Sangyup81- It seems that the Venices are speed-binned. I guess you can't expect an extreme OC with a 3000+, like you could with a Winchester.

Hmmmm.. Well, Don't worry about 20 pin vs 24 pin power supply, as long as it has at least 400Watt of power. I used the generic one that came with my 30 bux case, and it worked Perfectly w/converter. After a while i got tired of looking at it, and got an Antec Acrylic PSU which also had 20 pins. I'm also able to Oc, " Profile". " it's just the 300watt " Nothing else.
