I recently did some modifications to my V5 V5 mod and right now i have it at 194. I can run default benchmark tests T&L/Athlon/D3D 3Dmark2000 and demo runs fine. Also all my games run fine. My Question finnaly is how will the V5 respond when it has had enough OCing? Will it lock up or should I look for more subtle hints like tearing or stutters? I know I need a fresh dose of windoze new mobo/cpu since last instal so benchs are 3400ish. The how fast how stable question has got me having too much fun w/the card right now.;)

You'll notice visual annomilies such as 'snow flake' like effects on your screen. This is when you know that things are getting a little bit too hot and you need to back down a Mhz or two.

Should you push the card higher, the chances are that your PC will simply freeze after 3 seconds of the Quake 3 timedemo ;) Here's what happens on my Radeon (so the same can apply for any card I suppose):

190Mhz: Runs fine
195Mhz: Runs fine
198Mhz: Start to notice a little tearing/snow after about 15mins of Quake 3
203Mhz: Lots of snow on quake 3 and other games
207Mhz: Quake 3 demo freezes straight away.

Fortunately, the card is highly unlikely to freeze in 2d, so you'll have plenty of time to lower your Mhz to a more stable level after you reboot.

Good luck :)

Mine first starts to get visual artifacts if I have it to high. Higher than that, it will freeze during regular use. Higher than that, Windows 2D is messed up. Higher than that, Windows freezes upon loading.

194 is a pretty good overclock for a voodoo5, did you add any special cooling? for most of them it's 180 to 185 max.
note opengl/glide seems more overclockable than d3d games.
first off you may get tearing/shutturing or white or red dots when reaching the limit, or lockup when your existing the game, or lockup playing the game for a while. i won't recomend going above 185 if you want the card to last, it sounds like you have a better one, what's your ram brand?

38$ us not counting the artic adheasive anouther 16$. I had to loose 2 fins from one of the blobs to fit the V5. Also the blorb pins didnt line up right so instead of trusting them to frag tape I got the Artic Adheasive. I feel a lot safer with the glue than the tape. Cost me 6.50 more than 2cooltek's(w/artic upgrade) kit but I have two extra sinks.

If you want to test your cpu or your vidcard for stability the best test is the (original/first) Unreal castle flyby. I have to laugh at so many people who think their vidcard or cpu is stable without at least looping the flyby minimum 100 times. This will basically kill anything that is not stable ...even the Q3A exec demoloop doesn't do this much damage b/c of the pause to reload between maps.

What usually happens is you will get kicked & end up with long error message if the cpu is the problem, or if the vidcard is overclocked too high the system will lock.

My V5 will run forever at 183, but anything higher and it will invariably lock ...just give it time. Unreal flyby will eventually bury anything if it's too far overclocked/overheated

edit #1 : you don't need to install the full game ..just like 50mb of system files and run it off the cd

edit #2 : I would be interested to know if your card will run 194 overnight with the case closed and looping Unreal ...if it does you are a hero :)

edit #3 : that is a sweet mod ...maybe the best I have ever seen on a V5 ...I don't doubt that it will do 194mhz ...nice job!

RacerX I gave it a try let flyby screen run for a while, about 20mins in locked up at 194.:( This is even after finishing case mod 26cfm side intake. I will keep backing off and retesting.

also my 5500 will run fine at 187 as i recently found out.Thats with a stock card.Mayby i should get that setup from 2cooltek for it and see how fast i can get it. I bought it the first day they came out so you would think it wouldnt have that high of a yield.

BW ...same here I have had a Radeon and MX and a Pro (and basically every card before that :) ...but while all those cards showed snow in 3dMark and other things (MDK2/Q3A/3dMark) when too far overclocked, my V5 doesn't exhibit this.
I am pretty serious if you want to se if your card is stable loop the Unreal castle flyby for a couple hours while you watch TV ... hit ~ then ' timedemo 1 ' run 100 loops (preferably with 2.24 patch or higher) I have every benchmark and stability test ever made and I always come back to that one because even now it still is an instability killer :)

Oh yea.i love the unreal flyby for testing cpu's. i havent done it with the 5500 @187. Did it @183 fine.Besides the unreal flyby also looks and sounds cool. Would love to have it as a screansaver.

LOL yep it would be a cool screensaver but our poor little Durons would pay the price and maybe burn out at too young an age :)
