Overclocking troubles

Do you have another PS you can try? Dual rail PS's suck for overclocking, I've seen it over and over here on these forums. Can't O/C with a dual rail, swap to a single rail with a strong 12v rail and viola! I have a hard time beleiving that sandie is a dud, everyone I've seen hits 2.7ghz at least.

Unfortunately, no.... Just this PSU.... You should see the tests of this PSU - it had an even stronger 12V than the OCZ Powerstream.

*sigh*

Perhaps I should RMA it. I wonder how jab-tech is with returns.
 
Update: Loaded the newest 7/28 BIOS from EPoX and that makes things even worse. 240x10 with DDR166 is my stable setup with the 6/28 BIOS, but with 7/28 windows BSOD when I start Prime95 with the same settings.

Don't know if it is the 1t/2t thing, but I don't care.... Reverted back to 6/28

Something you need to aware of is the NF4 BIOS DDR SETTING.
When you set it at ~
200Mhz it is running at 1:1
166Mhz it is running at 6:5
133Mhz it is running at 3:2
Your MEMORY has factory spec of 200mhz (DDR 400)

Now... If you plan to OC your CPU to 250 FSB.
You should set your DDR rating at 166mhz.
250*5 / 6 = 208Mhz (this will be how fast your RAM actually running)

HT Frequency for Ultra Board is actually limited to 1000mhz.
So if you are running your cpu at 250Mhz FSB, you should set it to 4X 250*4 = 1000

My Venice 3000+ for example..... (BFG Tech Nforce4 Ultra mobo)
I am running my CPU @ 289 FSB
Then I have to set my DDR rating at 133mhz
289*2 / 3 = 193Mhz (This is how fast my RAM will be running)

HT Frenquecy for me will be 3X 289*3= 867 (well below the spec)
However, I can increase to 4X 289*4= 1156 (which I have to increase chip voltage)


*Your ram might have fast cas rating, however, it is sometimes unavoid to set it slower to 3-4-3-8 with Ram voltage set to 2.7V*

You probably should. I have your cpus little sister, 3500+ Venice and had similar problems. Had to jack up the vcore up to 1.70 so i could run everythign stable at 11x250. I think more vcore will solve your problem, though you need some nice cooling for that vcore.
 
Im also having problems trying to OC my A64 3500+ venice. I followed the instuctions in the "quick and dirty guide" or watever its called. With memory set to SPD and 100, CPU multiplier set to 7 and HTT=225 it crashes. Wont even make it too windows. And ive been reading bout newbies who have A64 3000's and their gettin to 260x9. What am i doin wrong (i am an OC newbie)?

HTT 245, VC 1.425V, RamIdx 233, HTX Auto, Mem (auto)2.5-4-3-9-CMD1@2.8V

3DMark03 13027, CPU 2.563G, FSB 1.165G Mem 466, Sandra: Int 11881, MemBW 6970.

I still have room to go up another 5 to 10% but I don't have time to fully Prime it but for now it is passing all other stability tests. The BFG board has turned out to be a good overclocker with Abit and DFI a little ahead.
 
[I see no setting in BIOS for PCIe lock. But Clockgen shows me the PCIe frequency as 100. ]

On most boards the PCI or AGP bus clocks are "locked" if they are set to a specific freq., and not auto.

On all of my boards it's not a lock, but is controls the divider. If I set Memory to 166 and FSB to 250 then memory ends up at 200, FSB * 4 / 5 : 250 * 4 =1000 / 5 = 200.

My PSU is dual rail and my OC kicks ass. 50 MHz less than yours and I'm using .1 less volts!

Asicman, I didn't use Zebo's guide, but here is what I did with my San Diego. Initially I shot for like 2.7 GHz and used these two settings:

270 HTT 10x Multiplier 3:4 Memory Divider and 3x Hypertransport
245 HTT 11x Multiplier 5:6 Memory Divider and 4x Hypertransport

Try giving it 1.5V with those settings. Once I got them running I increased the HTT, decreased the voltage, and lessened the memory divider.
 
I own a A64 3700+ San Diego, and I have it stable at 2.8Ghz. My Vcore is at 1.5625v though, and I am using the 166 memory divider to keep it at DDR400 speeds (11x255=2805; 2805/14=200.35). I am using an ASUS A8V-E Deluxe. Hope this helps.
 
I'm also having problems overclocking on my Epox 9NPA+ using a X2 3800+. I can't get it running stable at 240 FSB, 166 mem div, 4x HT, 10x multiplier. I have a Seasonic S12 380W with dual 12v rails. What is a safe voltage for my X2 3800+?
