Overclocking the gpu

I recently got a EVGA GTX 280, and I've been trying to get the best overclock that I can using Precision, but I can't find a good resource or tutorial that tells me what the three different clocks really mean. I want to know what each one is most important for.

I've been testing with Crysis Warhead and Vantage, and my current settings are as follows:

Core clock: 666
Shader clock: 1404
Memory Clock: 1242 (it seems like most people don't have it this high, is it as useful as the others?

Everything seems stable at these settings, no artifacts or crashes in Warhead, and temps don't get above 75c. I feel like I could go higher, but I don't want to do so ignorantly.

ATI tool I think has a test to to see the reliability and how stable your OC is. They that. Also make sure you monitor your temps as well. What is your fan speed set at?
 
I've got my fan at 61%. I raise it if temps got close to 80c after testing.

Edit: I'm trying the ATITool artifact detector as we speak, but I don't know how long to let it run.
 
next time make the post in video card section. But while we on this topic, I used ATITool to OC the GPU, pretty handy.

Up your clocks some 20 mhz at a time and run the artifact tester on ATI tool, for maximum 10 minutes, until you'll run into artifacts. Then you'll have to back it down a bit and make a full 1 hour of artifact test. If it passes that, then you should test it in games. Just remember, overclock the core/shaders/memory individually and not all at once.

Also, check ATI tool config, at artifacts tester and use the most aggressive testing ( "more artifacts detected, lower overclock").
