Overclocking the 6800

Howdy all

here is what i have and what ive done so far

i have a
EVGA 6800

unlocked to 16/6 using riva tuner

now just downloaded NVtweak got into Clock Feq. Settings currently at 325/700
if i try and set to manual and bump them even 1 over that and test , i get a failure and it reset to those speeds?

Overclocking Programs:

Any-Chipset Tools:
Powerstrip

Also, there are ATI only tools like:
RadLinker
ATI Tool (Usefull for artifact-checking)
RadClocker (A slimmed-down version of RadLinker)

And some NVidia Only tools:
CoolBits NVTweak
NV Max


i looked all over for a walk threw or info on NVtweak but found nothing

im just starting to dabble in overclocking so I very well may have just left something out

any pointers , or links to where i can read up , would be of great help im off to look somemore

It means that your pipes and/or shader are unfortunately defective. Your overclocking utility doesn't see the card as stable because the pipes / shader are broken.

try overclocking with with opening any pipes. and use rivatuner to o/c .

sigh , really ? and i thought i got a good deall when i bought it now i know why Grrrr


so what would be better OC the card or having the pipes unlocked , using riva tuner 15;.8 it says im unlocked to 16/6

test it out to see. imo 16/6 will be better, but it all depends on the game you play most.

so, lock it back up, o/c as much as you can and ran some bench. repeat with unlocked pipes.

either way its about bandwidth 🙂

ok so i put it back to 12/5 it went to 400/880 then i stopped
hit optimzed buton went to 385 /745

then unlock one pixel shader 12/6 OC no problems , didnt test much with it at this setting , just checked to see if i could OC

unlocked to 16/6 back to not being able to OC

figure its a Pipe problem just like ya said

ive been running the card at 16/6 for about a month no problems , i play mostly BF2
