overclocking the 350Mhz PII

hey all, just wondering if ill need a fan put on my slot 1 350Mhz, im bios overclocking to 450Mhz, it has the biggest heatsink i have ever seen and has a case fan sitting right next to it, will i need a fan assisted cooling system or will the heatsink be able to dissipate the extra heat.

BTW when the processor is running at its rated speed, you can feel about 24 degrees celcius from the heatsink.

im doing it through bios, using a maintence jumper

That doesn't necessarily mean it's o'c though, check the true speed with one of several utilities. Maybe you got a rare CPU that isn't locked but with normal desktop CPU you MUST raise FSB to increase CPU speed.

So long as Vcore isn't raised the stock 'sink is perfectly adequate for 450MHz, but it sounds a bit like you have one of those OEM cooling solutions that employs a fan shroud hanging down from PSU, so be sure to use that shroud or make one if you don't have the original. When all else fails use the old touch-test... if your finger leaves skin on the 'sink, you need a new finger.

Dude, you may want to verify the speed of your CPU with a program like wcpuid. A PII 350 will have a tough time getting to 450MHz. The PII 350 is a Slot 1 CPU and has off die cache. On these processors, the cache is what normally keeps you from overclockign very far.
