Overclocking stock 8800gts 320mb

I went asus coz it was one of the cheapest I could get, and it includes 2 some what older games that I still might enjoy a little, plus my current asus card never gave me trouble.

Core clock default is at 500mhz, what's the save limit/temperatures? I've seen people push them over 600, but I'm gonna use the stock cooler, with a casefan blowing pulling hot air away. So what should I aim for ? I realize not all cards OC the same, but if I can get an easy extra 10% out of it, why not, right ? The ram barely Oc's it seems, stock at 1.6ghz, should I aim for 1.7, or leave it alone ?

The safe limit ( not absolute max, but a safe limit ) is full load @ 80-85C.

Thanks mate I'm definately gonna check it out. I was kind of planning only to use nTune, if possible, and push up the coreclock and the memory clock. Not sure if I'd feel comfortable messing with the bios, pushing it to it's limits, considering a broken 8800gts is a big NO-NO for me But I guess it will be helpfull for determining it's limits.

hm, considering the way the 8800gts cooler works (or at least from what i can tell), i think it would be better to use the fan to blow cool air in. if im not mistaken, the stock cooler blows air from the case through the heatsink and out the back of the case. so, as you can see, it's already blowing air out of the case, so why would you put a 2nd exhaust fan in that airflow system? if you make the case fan blow cool air from outside directly to the video card, then it will have fresh cool air all the time. otherwise it would have to rely on the front case fan's airflow for cool air, which wouldn't be all that cool or even all that plentiful what with the hard drives in the way. you shouldn't have to worry about exhausting hot air as the video card already does that.

Yeah makes sense, so try to supply the videocards fan with cool air instead of helping it draw hot air out of the case. I guess I'll put the sidecase fan to blow air into the case from outside. Just reminds me, I frigging forgot to order a new casefan together with the 8800gts, psu and ram :S

exactly. most of the air that the video card heats gets pushed out the back of the heatsink anyway, so it would be better to supply it with fresh cool air.

Not sure if its worth overclocking because it only gains you 1 to 5 fps more.
