i have a radeon 8500 and i want to turn up the ram big time....but will heat hinder this?

i have some ramsinks i could put on with AS epoxy and i was gonna put ASIII underneath the HSF on my vcard. do you guys think this will help its perfomance and help it push higher?

the as3 on the heatsink will help, many video cards have poorly applied thermal paste or use thermal pads
the ramsinks may or may not buy you a few extra MHz at the top end, no way to tell until you try it
if you already have the ramsinks i say go for it
BUT...
be very careful that the as epoxy doesn't get on any traces as it can be slightly capacitative

have you tested it yet without ramsinks?
just kinda curious about before and after numbers
and are the ram chips bga(square) or tsop (rectangle)?
i'll be interested to see your results

they are square and yes i tested before i put them on. the highest i could get the memory without getting artifacts was 330mhz. i am going to test it again right now to see if the sinks made a difference at all.

ill let ya know in a few minutes :)

My GF4 4400 core went from 315MHz stable to 305MHz stable after I applied AS3. Thugs says he's heard that before about AS3. I still need to retest and check my paste application though. But make sure you get a max overclock before you do anything so you can judge the effectiveness. Also, regarding the RAM, if it's BGA ram (which I think is the case on the 8500), it may not benefit much from ramsinks. If you have a fan you can mount to blow directly on the card, that would probably be more effective.

i know ramsinks aren't going to give bga ram a huge boost, but since he already had them, might as well go for it
also, sometimes they can give that extra little bit at the top end that makes the difference between running stable but with artifacts or runnng artifact free at the same speed

wtf? it appears to be performing MUCH worse after putting on the RAMsinks. it is artifact free at 335, and that is only a jump from 330. i guess it helped a little. but now, my score is 7000 and it was 10299 yesterday! wtf is wrong? maybe some settings changed somewhere because i dont think it would cause that much of a drop.

i didnt even do anything to the GPU yet....

wow.....

i fixed my problem. i had everything set to extreme high quality. i just re-ran my tests and got...

10404!!! so id say thats a decent jump from 10299 to 10404 for almost no work and no cost. what do you guys think?

maybe when i get a water cooling kit and get the add-on for the GPU and northbridge i will be able to get the core stable at like 320 or 322 or something.....

and maybe break 11,000 :) would be sweet....

what do you guys get with your g4's and r8500's?

ok im finding that 10404 is very low. some people are getting 11,000+ with a core and ram setting lower than mine. i am going to run my benchmarks now at 310/326 because thats what this guy has that got 11,000. now what do i need to do to get everything turned on perfectly to get a score that high?

wtf is wrong with mine? people with 300/300 on an r8500 LE are getting 100 pts higher than me....

What speed is your P4 running at? I've got an XP1600+ on PC133 (1400/133) with a GF4 4400. 275/550, my 3dmark 2001SE is about 8500. I get about 250 points by going to 305/625. You can see the results of one (not sure which) here.

i just upped the processor from 2.32 to 2.46 and instead of 10404 i got 10398.........

what the hell is wrong? why cant i get 11k like all these other people with p4's and radeon 8500s? is it my RAM?

i have 1gb of ddr pc2100 ram, its running at 2-2-2 and stable at 308mhz (154x2)

so what the hell? its on windows xp btw

Sounds like a heat problem. The CPU will throttle down if it gets into the mid 60's.
