I just purchased my new Q8200 instead of purchasing a Q6600 cos i didnt think about the multiplier.
Q8200 has a low 7X multi which kinda sux, Q6600 has a 9X which makes it easier to oc on a lower bus.
i have an evga 750i and 2gb kingston 1066 ddr2

Cooling is Ultra 120 with a 120mm fan on it, 120mm fan on the bak of the case and the fan on the mobo which is freaken loud

previously i tested it at 466x7(3262), ram = 5,7,7,25,2t and it ran fine although i had the
voltages up pretty high at

1.55 CPU
1.4 FSB
2.1 MEM
1.4 SPP
1.4 NF200

this ran at a cool 82c :"S for about 20 mins on orthos testing. no crashes at all
games ran fine as well eg. crysis,cs:s.

i didnt do any lower voltage adjustments at that time

currently i have my board running at 450x7, ram = 1066 5,5,5,15,2twhich is 3150 and thats ok for me

1.38 CPU
1.4 FSB
2.1 MEM
1.35 SPP
1.35 NF200

i did prime 95 on this cos orthos wasnt stressing all 4 cores.
after 20 mins current temp were

Tj. Max: 100c
core1 77 - 80c
core2 72 - 76c
core3 72 - 74c
core4 72 - 76c

after 3.5 hours the temps were
core1 68c
core2 65c
core3 63c
core4 65c

is this too high? my heatsink feels warm to the touch, about 40c.

i will be trying lower voltages and higher clocks soon.

Has anyone else been overclocking a Q8200 and whats your results with it.

Welcome to anandtech. Your temps aren't cool; they're quite hot, as a matter of fact. Also, your Q8200 shouldn't need need anywhere near 1.4v, to only be running @ only 3150 Mhz. My Q6600 only requires ~1.22v @ 3.2 Ghz, and is way, way cooler. You're most likely only running so hot because you're using WAY more voltage than you need, though. Good luck.

well at stock 2.33(7x333) cpuz reports 1.208v and core temp sits on 60c for all 4 cores

when using auto for voltages and putting the fsb at 400x7@2.8 it goes up to 1.35v core and 1.3v for the fsb and windows will load although prime95 crashes almost right away

Woah. You're lucky it isn't a lump of fused metal after pushing it to 1.55 volts. Intel's spec sheet calls for a safe maximum of 1.36, and even the craziest among us don't push 1.4. Hopefully you were joking when you called 82C "cool..."

You should really read the guide stickied at the top of the forum before you burn it up, and keep Intel's spec handy:

well i put on Realtemp as well and it seems that core temp is giving a 5c higher reading then Realtemp.

Realtemp also identifies my cpu as its correct Q8200.
Coretemp(0.99.3) detects it as a q9200.
I noticed that the Tj. Max is 100c on coretemp and 95c on realtemp, whats up with that ? ?
So if I go by Realtemp my temps stay below 57 if its coretemp it says 62

Both are displaying VID as 1.2375v, is this the stock operating voltage for the Q8200 ?

Can it be bad to run at 1.381v if the temp is only 57c at full load ?

edit: cpuz reports 1.36 at idle and 1.344 at load
