Overclocking Problems

I have an A8N-SLI deluxe, a 3200+ winchester, and 1GB RAM. I've been using the Quick 'n Dirty A64 overclocking guide i found here, but I've run into problems.

I set my RAM max SPD to DDR200. I set my CPU multiplier to 5x (it is 10x by default) and disabled every "cool 'n quiet" option i can find. I've also moved my HDD from SATA1 to SATA4. But when i start overclocking, as soon as i raise my FSB to 220, i start getting POST errors on startup.

From what i can tell, it must be the MoBo causing the problems. Everything else is running way inside specs. This is the first time i've tried OCing. Any ideas anyone? I dunno why Im stuck here. I may have missed something. As I said, I dunno?

did you lower the hypertransport multiplier? at 220HTT frequency it would be running at 1100MHz, just lower the multiplier to 4x/1000MHz between 200-250HTT and to 3x/600MHz beyond that.

Oh, OKay. I left in on auto - guess that's where i screwed up. Sweet. I'll have a go 'n see if that fixes it up.

Are your overclocking in bios or in windows? You have to set HTT to 201 or higher in bios to activate the locks, if you boot up at stock 200mhz and overclock in windows the buses aren't locked. When the locks are enabled all the SATA ports are locked.

Nah, I don't like some of the things I've heard about overclocking in windows. I do it all via BIOS.

changing the HTT multiplier to 4x worked well. I've dropped it down to 3x, and now my FSB is currently running at 290MHz.

I wonder how far I can get it...

heh, lots of things to change when overclocking a K8... but that's what makes it so much fun

Yeah.

Well, so far, I can get my FSB (or whatever it's called) to 290, but it falters at 300. My CPU is currently at 2.5GHz, and no Prime95 errors so far. So I've got better than a 3800+ out of my 3200+ chip. :)

Thanks 4 the help guys.

EDIT: Just failed a Prime95 test. But I am still running at stock voltage. I'll up the voltage and see how far she will really go.
