Overclocking non.K CPUs? how does this happen and can it only be done with AsRock?

any MB (with P67 and higher) will overclock the same (apart from BCLK OC)...

non K can be overclocked by 600MHz+ over the stock clock,

let's say the default clock of the non K CPU is 3.3GHz (i5 2500), with turbo on 3.4 for 4 cores, 3.7 for 1 core in use.

now intel will allow you to use turbo + 4x, so for 4 cores it will go to 3.8GHz, for one 4.1GHz

on top of that you can add some bclk OC, let's say 105MHz bclk, so now you go for 3.99GHz for 4 cores, and 4.3GHz for a single core in use...

Only true for SNB, Ivy Bridge only has two turbo steps, +2 and +4. A CPU with nominal 3.3 GHz will turbo to following frequencies:
4 cores used: 3.5 GHz
3 cores used: 3.5 GHz
2 cores used: 3.7 GHz
1 core used: 3.7 GHz

With +4 turbo overclocking, the resulting speeds are 3.9 & 4.1.

intel reduced the OC from +4 to the max of +2 bins!?

anyway, from SB it works as I told

I have a i5-2500 & tried o/c via the turbo multiplier to 4.0, but it ended up crashing the system. Doesn't matter to me, since it's plenty fast @ stock.
