overclocking newbie can u assist plz?

Hi all,
I just built my new rig and was looking to overclock it slightly see what it can do.
I wonder if anyone knows where i could find a monkeys guide to overclocking and where/what to do first. I have looked at bios and dont want to touch anything just yet!
I have read a few threads but couldn't take it in.
As i said im very new to all this and dont want to over do it, just a small clock so to get the jist of how it works.

Thanks Brazz, but tryed that already and cant make head nor tail of it! Dont know what bios they are using but mine seems to be alot different or im just real stupid (dont answer that)
I have genie bios and cant see htt or CPU multi or spd 100 what part of Bios is it?

There was another great OCing guide somewhere on the CPU and Overclocking forums by someone named UberL337Jared, it use to be stickied but I don't know what happened to it. Try searching for it. Great guide, it's where I learned how to OC.

Thanks Sent, will read up more tonight on that but just to add, i am having probs finding my CPU multiplier in my Genie Bios. i have a DFI Lan party ut Nf4 sli-d Mobo
I have increased FSB from 200(default) to 215 without any probs but cant find CPU multiplier to decrease it? I have attached screenshot of my bioss maybe you couls see where CPU multiplier is?

Dont suppose you know what LDT bus transfer width is ? i can have it at 16/16 16/8 8/8 or 8/16...

I dont understand what the difference is by setting it to, lets say 10.5 or Auto? if i have a 2.2gb Amd and default is 200FSB X 11 CPU/FSB Freq Ratio that gives me my 2.2 i.e 11X200 so do i turn 11 down to say 10 then FSB up to 220? which would be theoretically the same 10X220/11X200 but having higher FSB speed is infact quicker? am i getting it right?

I am new to the whole pc build and oc thing so I am not the one that would know that. I can't remember any post that mentioned it; eventhough, I've been reading about ocing for past 2 weeks, but then maybe I just forrgot that I did. I left mine at 16/16.

Well i tryed 10/220 wont boot up
10/215 wont boot up
10/210 wont boot up
10/205 wont boot up
10/202 wont boot up
9.5/205 wont boot up
upped every voltage to max apart from ddram as that wouldnt let me go above 2.6 and tryed again still the same.
So went back to auto/auto ;(

I think that your problem is LTD/FSB Frequency Ratio. If I got it right that should not be on auto when ocing. In my bios I adjusted HT from 5 to 4. Basically, HTxFSB should be 1000 or less. I think that LTD = HTxFSB and in that case your LTD/FSB Ratio should be the same as mine HT setting. Open it and if options are 5,4, and less set it at 4.

Also, do some more research on forums about your mobo and ocing. Google your mobo for reviews. Get familiar with terminology and with your bios. When you feel confident and have enough time go by this guide http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=28&threadid=1497607&enterthread=y

Hi Ast, i just flashed my bios to most recent bios. Goin to start again see where it takes me i also changed ram voltage jumper to enable 2.6 - 4.0v wont go above 2.9v i know that mch LOL thanks for your help hopefully we will both be happy with our rigs soon

well multi at 10 fsb at 238 and thats as much as I can do it ;(

tryed multi at 8 & 9 slowly moving fsb up, got to 240 and blue screening no boot up... had ram at 2.9 volts cpu at 1.45v LDTX4 im lossed as what to try next

Hi people can you help me please? I have now got my p.c running at FSB@251 Multi@10. ram 2.9v 2.5-3-3-3 prime 95 tested for 7 hours runs ok no errors not sure what to have timings at? as my 3dmark05 score has dropped from 5946 to 4965 and everest CPU write has dropped alot too any help would be appreciated ...thanks
