Overclocking Kingston Hyper X

Hey all,

I just bought a 512mb stick of Hyper X pc3000 memory. My problem is this: my motherboard (ECS L4VXA2) only supports ddr333 or ddr400. This is DDR370 ram. I currently have it running at the 166 setting, but it is actually 181 with my fsb increase. I can't seem to get it to run at 400, but I've read reviews that this memory is great for overclocking and can easily run at 400mhz. I tried it at 400 with all default settings, and it keeps freezing up. Does anyone have any suggestions? Or am I just out of luck with this limited motherboard? Thanks!!!

I am really unfamiliar with the timings. The only thing I did was set the cl to cl2, which is what the memory is. What else is there to do?

There's quite a few of them, some of which you may not be able to change depending on how robust the BIOS on that particular board is. Try setting the CAS latency down to 2.5 or even 3.

You can also raise the voltage on the ram, I have run 2 sticks of the hyper x 3000 at 3.1 volts at 212(at cas2) and they weren't any warm. Now that is excessive and be very careful as I have kick-butt cooling, but you should be to raise it, if you motherboard support it, to 2.8 v without any trouble and it does make a difference with this ram.

Yes, raise the Vdimm voltage to 2.8v

and try the following timings...

Cas 2/3/3/7 that should give you enough head room to make 200mhz...

If not try 2.5/3/3/7

OK, I'll try to raise the voltage. Unfortunately, it doesn't tell me what it's at, but instead it is done in percentages. Like +2% or +4%. Anyway, it looks like it will raise the frequency of the memory when I up the front side bus, which is not good either. At my current setting of 145mhz fsb, my ram would be running at 212mhz, or 424. Let's hope for the best. Thanks guys, I'll play around with it.

Hmm, wasn't too successful. I think it's this ECS board. Probably the worst brand board to overclock, except for intel. Anyway, I guess I'm happy with 181mhz.
