Overclocking: killing brain? OC causing strange biological problems...

System Specs: Athlon 64 2800/VNF-250/Antec Performance II W/400 included PSU




For some reason when i overclock my CPU to about 2.4ghz my ears start hurting like hell! In addition, I get an headache and my ears become numb. At first, I thought it might of been my stock HSF, but the fan is only at about 3200 which I hear is somewhat normal...Someone suggested that is might be my "Mosfets" or something which are covered in black paint on my mobo.

I was wondering what could be causing these headaches as well as hearing trouble. I suspect its some sort of high frequencies or something that the OC is letting off.

the high frequencies idea sounds like a good theory, dunno bout electromagnetism? is it possible to increase the em field from components by overclockin? it has been studied that em fields if strong enough can make ppl heloucinate (spelt?) and im sure they give u head aches.
 
I am seriously not kidding. It's weird as hell. To think i was about to buy a new HSF because i thought that was the cause. But apparently there is something alot stranger going on here.

do you have problems with wireless routers, microwaves or cellphones too ? I dont say its impossible, but i could rather see this happening with cellphone-use or being too close to a wireless router etc....

But seriously, are the sounds similar to the super high pitched whine of TVs, if so I would probably say it was your Motherboard or PSU getting out of whack. Have you tried running with the case off and moving your ear around inside the case to localize the problem?

I wonder if i could be experiencing what dogs do when they hear high whistles. in addition, when i OC my CPU spectrum thing automatically disables...I heard the spectrum might have some affect on the amount of high frequncies are released.
 
Just curious, do you have Meniers Disease of the Inner Ear? I have suffered with it for years and certain sounds trigger it, Hearing loss, dizzyness, Massive headaches and pain in the affected ear.
 
Mmm...maybe its time to go for a checkup =p but jokes aside, maybe your PSU could be leaking or you're sitting on a generator that powers your whole building
 
if i turn off the spectrum smoothing thing, my TV receives some static, so maybe it is the high frequencies that are causing you problems.
 
yeah, i do hear a squeal(like the souond of someone sharpening a piece of metal or something). It's REALLY high and somewhat static and short, but ti comes and goes. At first i thought it might of just been the stock fan changin speeds, but i guess i was mistaken.
 
You've heard the old joke about the guy who goes to the doctor and complains that it hurts when he lifts his arm above his shoulder and the doctor says well, stop lifting your arm above your shoulder.

If it hurts when you OC your PC, stop OCing your PC.
 
I've heard caps can cause high frequency noise; coils can too, but there shouldn't be any high frequency coils in a computer; maybe in the power supply. I suppose high frequency noises could cause headaches.

The other solution is perhaps you are simply stressed out while overclocking. Maybe you are either worried it will fry something, or subconsciously worried at least.

Also, magnetism doesn't affect humans from anything I've ever seen, plus, if your computer is causing any kind of fields, I doubt it would even work in the first place. 😉
 
Get a sound meter from Radio Shack and check the sound level before & after you overclock.
You could also use a spectrum analyzer to see at what freq. your hearing the noise.

Did you try listening to a friends computer that is similiar ?

anybody know of a free program that can take audio and analyze the frequency spectrum? or any professional tools too.

i stuck my head in my case to listen and felt a little of my hair getting sucked into the cpu fan 🙂 the only high pitched whine is from my hard drives. what's your oltage when you overclock, different than stock? running more voltage through the caps is what i think would cause it
 
This is a serious problem and it's very real indeed.Millions are inflicted with this phenomenon worldwide.
Recommendations are to take some aluminum foil and form it into a hat and wear it to ward off those space rays
 
Thats why I miss those old motherboards with the 'enable/ disable spread spectrum'...........
I had this strange PSU once, which made a very high frequency sound. This was way back in 1999 and it was manufactured by Kobian china. When I opened it up, there was this cheap looking leaky Chinese capacitor that had gone kaputt and was emitting this hum......
