I am working on overclocking my XP1800+. I have it running at 1728Mhz @ 42C when idle. I have my core voltage at 1.87V and my memory at stock. I have been noticing some instability. My temps are well within normal specs. Is it most likely my ram? Or is it more likely that I need more core voltage (or ram voltage)?
thanks,
-doug

EDIT: I forgot to include that. Sorry. The CPU is at 11.5x150. So the ram is at 300Mhz and it is crucial PC2100. I probably should invest in some PC2700 if I ever get some money.

EDIT#2: The problem I am having is either reboots. But the reboots seem to follow a blue screen saying something about "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_OR_LESS_EQUAL" and it also says something about physical memory dump. Any ideas?

Is the CPU a palomino or Tbred-A/B ?

Palomino's hit a roof of around 1.8ghz for clockspeed without excessive cooling.

Its a palamino. It suprises me how cool it is staying. I was expecting heat to be the hurdle in all of this. I will try boosting my RAM voltage.

How'd that work out? I'd like to ask, what does it mean if it says that the c:\windows\system directory is corrupt?

That sounds like bad news to be. If your system directory is corrupt.

As for my overclocking, it seems like 150Mhz doesn't make my system happy. I am at 147Mhz now and everything seems totally fine. The ram is running at full speed and all. What vexes me though is when I put it at 150 and set the ram speed at 83% (I have an nForce2 board that gives me that option) that is when things go bad. So the ram is at stock voltage running at 125Mhz and the system won't post. Why shouldn't it work with the ram speed lower than allowed?
thanks,

What if your mobo only goes up to 1600-2100 ram you cant use the 2700 anyway can you?

Then you can still use PC2700 if you are overclocking. What I don't get is why the ram flips out when I try to run it at 125mhz.
