I have an AMD K6-2 550, on an Epox EP-MVP3C2 mobo. I'm currently at 5.5x, 100mhz CPU bus, and 2.3 V (which are the factory specs). I'm new to o/c'ing, but I want to get a little more out of this mobo. Does anybody have any suggestions for settings that would get me more, but not push it to the limits (I have adequate cooling - Supermicro SC750-A)

I can point you to a couple of good sites for info:

You'll find several articles on the K6, just go down through the list of articles.

This is a database of what others have achieved in overclocking, not a lot of details but can give you an idea of what's been done. I would not recommend trying some of the extremes listed. This is overclockers.com site, after looking at the database you might find some other general info of interest.

You wont EVER get anything above 600MHz, the core limit is 600. Try taking the multiplier up to 6.0, if that isn't stable, try taking the FSB to 100MHz (less chance of being stable)
That will get you 600MHz, about all you can do.

dude don't even try 600mhz it will never boot right
these cpu are very poor overclocker
I even try at 582mhz and it was gettting pretty hot about 53C
after half an hour of usuage, I was getting lockup, ie error shutdown etc.
try 95 x 2.0 for 570 with 2.3V pretty stable and yet run much cooler
then at 582mhz
Trust me, your next best upgrade would be that you have to replace your motherboard and CPU
get a Celeron 533A and O/C to 800mhz and get twice the performance
of a K6-2 550
Damn this really sucks, I just got that K6 550mhz and motherboard
a week ago.
LOOK like I'll have to take this out later when more speed is required. :(

Don't go for a lower bus speed ,this also slows the down the L2 cache which is the last thing you want! :Q.
You could try something like 5x115 =575MHz ,if your L2 cache can remain stable at that ,even 5x110 = 550MHz would be an improvement.
Of course this assumes you have bus speeds over 100MHz.

I've just been looking through the pdf manual for your board & you have 112MHz available to you :) ,so you could try 5x112 = 560MHz ,this would still be quicker than 2(6)x95 = 570Mhz due to the faster L2 cache @ 112MHz

Here's where I got the pdf manual from
