Question Overclocking FX 6100 worth it?

To get it out of the way, yes I want to upgrade to Ryzen ASAP, but would like to use this as a second PC then and not sure when I'll buy a whole new platform. Also, the last CPU I seriously OC'd was an Athlon XP 2500+ (a beast of a chip bought on here) so it has been awhile.

My setup.
FX 6100
GA-78LMT-USB3
Gammaxx 400 cooler
Gtx 1060 3gb (just replaced hd 6870)
500w Corsair PSU
2x4gb decent RAM
Corsair Obsidian 750 airflow case

I recently bought the 1060 cheap which got me started on this upgrade phase. I've heard conflicting reports on this motherboard and weak VRMs. Would a modest OC make any sense for gaming performance? I figure I could get a decent OC near stock voltage, but not sure if it would have any advantage over the turbo boost. Any response is appreciated.

Nope, those chips are dogs. I had one I know, then I had a 6300 after a bent pin.
best case without spending more money on it will be some trivial couple of percent performance boost that will be totally unnoticeable in everyday use.

I wouldn't spend any time overclocking it. Underclocking/undervolting might be a better path depending on what you want it to do in its new role as "second PC".

The slower the cpu the more overclocking helps. There's up to 30% performance to be gained from fx6100 with overclocking if MB VRM can handle it. Both cores and northbridge can be overclocked.

There's about zero benefit to overclock already fast enough system.......

from what I've checked that MB is fairly OK in terms of vrm considering other 760/780G boards, but still make sure you have some good amount of air flowing in that area of the case/MB,
I think you can get low to mid 4ghz on this CPU fairly easily, which is not going to make this CPU all that great but should give you some performance boost compared to stock...
I would try something on the 4-4.2GHz region with lowest possible voltage
