I just got an FX-60 running in my rig, BIOS updated etc. I now would like to take a try at overclocking...and trying to hit 3.0 Ghtz.

I have a Thermaltake CL-P0006 heatsink with a 120mm Panaflow Hydrowave fan. Should this be enough to cool this beast? Or is 3 ghtz on an FX_60 in need of watercooling?

thnx

should be able to hit 3.0 with good air.

I have my 4800+ @ 2.8 on air. So you figure the additional 200mhz of the fx = 3.0

Good luck with the fx.

I think you should be able to do 3.0 on air with the FX-60.

3.0 ghz on air. hmmmmmm very few AMD chips will go 3.0ghz.

3.2ghz But on Water

Thats the MAX i was able to push any AMD. And believe me ive used opty's and FX-60.

Its not as important as the class of CPU, more on the steppings. My Steppings are CCBBE 0617 TPWM.

Anyhow, for me to get that insane OC, i had to push her close to 1.5V. Believe me i dont like doing that, and i would never attempt that high of a voltage on AIR. I would say a comfortable OC on a FX was ~2.85 - 2.9ghz on a stock cpu that is 2.6ghz

3.0ghz might be asking for too much on a FX-60 .. maybe if u were to jump AM2 and get a FX-62, 3.0+ would be more possible.

Just to let you know how complicated my loop had to be to support 1.5V
Here Good luck sorting things out

Thats about what it takes to cool my opty at 1.5V to a comfortable lvl.

The unlocked multiplier is a major benefit. Just up it to 14x and you are at 2.8. Move it to 14.5x and you are at 2.9ghz, next up the FSB to 207 and you are just over 3ghz

Or keep it at 14x and bump the FSB to 214

What may (likely) need better cooling is the NB

ROFL you make it sound so easy.... As i have said, ive yet to see a AMD that goes 3.0ghz on AIR stable. Im willing to guess his max will be just short of 3.0 Roughly 2.95ghz where all the other FX-60's are topping at.
