I'm thinking about getting a new cpu (Athlon XP 1800), and was leaning towards the retail version since it has a 3 year warranty for a few bucks more. If I ever decided to overclock it, though, would it void the warranty?
One thing that caught my eye was that the warranty is automatically voided if you put a different heatsink or fan on than is provided. I would assume this automatically rules out raising the multiplier for cooling reasons (the provided heatsink not being adequate), but what about raising the FSB frequency?
If you can't already tell, I'm new to overclocking, which is why I I'm not sure what kind of a heat increase from the processor results from raising the FSB speed. Would this also be a way to get around voiding the warranty on the processor from overclocking?
If it's apparent I have no idea what I'm talking about, please feel free to correct me..
