Overclocking and Warranties

My A8N5X Asus motherboard comes with a program called AIBooster. After installing it, it automatically overclocked my processor to 103%, by increasing the "FSB." I clicked on 108% and the "FSB" increased, increasing my clock speed. I am a noob when it comes to overclocking, and this was my first experience with it.

My question to you is, does overclocking void the AMD Manufacturer's warranty?
and if so, how can they tell if I overclocked it? I find it unfair that right after installing a program my processor was automatically overclocked.

Yes, overclocking viods the warranty.

They can tell if you fry your cpu. There are fuses in the cpu, that if blown are an indication that the cpu was abused.

Now, is AMD going to spend the effort to examine them for a warranty return? I don't know.

My processor hasn't been fried or anything, I was just wondering before I overclock it so much that it is fried.

Overclocking voids the waranty. Something small like 3% isn't going to void the waranty, there are certain tolerances, FSB speeds aren't exact. However once you start to manualy increase the FSB, you have voided the waranty. But if you kill your CPU by overclocking, even if they can't tell that you overclocked it, it's not right to try and get it replaced, you took the risk by overclocking it.

The problem is, I didn't knowingly take the risk of overclocking it. I installed my operating system, drivers etc. Then the utilities on my motherboard disk, and was presented with a nice looking problem that didn't put anything about warranties in their EULA, and had already just by starting the program, overclocking my processor by 3%. Then, exploring the program because it didn't imply there was any danger in overclocking, I overclocked 8%, and got my processor to 2.4ghz. I currently have it on the lowest level of clockage, which is 103%, and it is running at 2.26 ghz. Im hoping I didn't unknowingly void my warranty.

I got the same motherboard and was kind of suprised to see they included the overclocking software with the board. However, if you're concerned about the warranty, and it sounds like an honest mistake and no harm done, just put it back to stock and let it go...

The included software is junk anyway ;)
