overclocking and memory timings????

The only tool I use for benchmarking is 3dmark 05. I have my AMD 64 3000+ Venice running at 2565 Mhz(285 x 9). I set my Kingston HyperX 3200 Ram at 4:5 multi to run at 228 Mhz, 3-4-48-1T and I got 8849 on 3DM05. Now I set it to 3:4 multi at 213 Mhz, 2-3-3-7-1T and I get 8810. Is this normal???

Another funny thing is I took the cpu to 2700 Mhz(300 x9) and RAM at 225 Mhz, 3-4-4-8-1T and I get 8821, less than my best score with 2565 Mhz. Why is this so?

well, overclocking is all about experimentation, try lots of different settings, and benchmark them. there is really no way to know except that way. just stick to the best settings.

Isn't 3dmark05 pretty much entirely a video card benchmark? Maybe that tiny drop in memory bandwidth just slowed your video card down a hair.

Check it in another application. I'm not a big fan of synthetic benchmarks myself.
